Notes: PAM for NT Domains - an authentication module that checks Unix logins against a Windows NT or a Windows NT compatible Domain.

(That means Samba!)

In combination with Samba and winbind, pam_ntdom can be used to have a Unix host as a member of an NT or NT-compatible Domain, with no real Unix-style database on it.
