Notes:

msgid.net provides a quick, short URL method to provide direct access to Google's Usenet archive (formerly deja.com). The intention is to increase the number of things msgid.net can decrease the URL length to access, but individual messages on Google will do for now.

URLs end up in the form http://msgid.net/somerandommessageid@posting.host which is shorter than something like http://groups.google.com/groups? hl=en&safe=off&selm=somerandommessageid@posting.host&output= gplain ... :)

Update: I let the domain expire :(
