I like DJ Bernstein's daemontools package a lot. And I use it on my system. I am only bothered by the fact that it starts lots of supervise processes, even for the services that are down. So I started to write a minimal replacement package and called it minit. While there are no boot scripts for minit yet, it could be used as init replacement on embedded systems (no ctrl-alt-del handling so far).
It does have a few cool features like dependencies (with loop detection) and it does not require /proc to be mounted or the file system to be mounted read-write, it does not use System V IPC and it still allows you to start and stop services on-the-fly (without having to edit a config file and sending SIGHUP).
This project has the following developers:
New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
