Red Hat Linux is a well-known GNU/Linux operating system distribution. Red Hat is also a company, but all produced software is released as free software (open source software). Red Hat Advanced Development Labs is where most of the free software development takes place.

The most notable Red Hat projects are the Red Hat Package Manager, Red Hat Network, and the anaconda installation framework, and other involvement includes the GNOME, GTK+, linuxconf, and Piranha projects.
