Project info for Apache mod_send_gzip

Share This Created 16 Sep 2000 at 13:08 UTC by brendan.

Notes:

Just getting started, mod_send_gzip is a simple Apache module that uses the HTTP/1.1

Accept-encoding:
header to send gzip encoded files where possible.

Brendan Quinn started it off by resurrecting and dusting off a Mozilla module written in 1998 that achieves mostly the same purpose. Brendan simply updated the code and added a few extra configuration parameters and features, and released it in September 2000.

A version of the module was used on the Sydney Morning Herald's Sydney 2000 Olympics web site (built at f2, Brendan's day job), allowing f2 to cope with the huge bandwidth requirements that such a site demands.

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
