My IOP331 arrived this week, courtesy of Intel, this will be used for working on OProfile PMU code initially, but perhaps some more 2.6 hacking later. I had a bit of a hard time getting it going initially but turns out my flash is bad, but switching to 16bit mode appears to make RedBoot happy to at least proceed to a prompt. That's good enough for me. Tonight i did the kernel changes for timer int based OProfile and got the PMU code to compile, tommorrow i'll wrap up OProfile userspace support and perhaps start on the PMU -> OProfile interface code. I just can't wait to start working on various PCI/PCI-X code/devices with this thing =)

I want to make babies with Matt Mackall's -tiny tree!

Friday night, somehow ended up watching The Hulk and missed my opportunity to go out. Now i'm stuck at home and having a really hard time sleeping.. so after lying still for an hour i gave up and going to see what's out there.

First item on the agenda is merging my per node IDTs aka millions-o-interrupt sources patch with the -mm tree (4G/4G and MSI to contend with). Both boot on regular boxen now but i'm having trouble making it to console_init on the NUMAQ, a bit more debugging might be in order.

Second item is PGCL, Bill really needs more bodies on this, just tracking every kernel release is work enough. I'll be doing the second round of DRI fixes this weekend, plus maybe some general debugging too.

Christmas coming soon too! I'm really fighting the urge to get a PowerBook... really i am...

And a gig 'o RAM on every desk...

Almost there regarding immigration, December the 8th... http://bcn.boulder.co.us/government/national/speeches/spch2.html

Some of the other guys working on CPU hotplugging are really beginning to nail some bugs. I'm glad that it's making progress, i'm hoping to get some time to actually start contributing again soon.

In other news; no one loves an immigrant, still waiting on Canadian immigration. I wonder if i'll be able to get some news before Christmas so that i can at least go visit some family. The weather is beginning to approach shite levels so i may want to scarper anyway..

Various bits and pieces for the new build box are creeping in, it's not spectacular (dual 2.0 xeon, 1G RAM, lotsa disks) but it'll be a whole lot better than the dual 400MHz box i'm currently using for compiling. This should up my productivity quite a bit considering that i have 15-30min waits inbetween most project compiles (with ccache enabled) at present.

My Token Ring card also came so now i can finally get the PPC32 toasters running Linux, more targets!!

Since kerneltrap posted the kernel hacker diaries link, i now have an audience for my endless drivel and mindless jabbering. This is a good thing. Thus far, the highlight of my day has been managing to keep breakfast off my shirt. A close second has been spending a bit more time writing (what i believe should be) a semi functional Intel Xscale PMU driver for Oprofile 2.6, now if only the infernal thing could get past uncompressing the kernel, i'd be home free!

I certified akpm as master today (up from apprentice ;), in light of recent events i think we're very privileged to have such a personality at the helm.

Working on opensource software can get so frustrating at times. There are a great many times when it simply doesn't seem worth it.
