Of course hair is fish - how else do you explain
Japanese people and cats?

Settled in at UMIST. They really shouldn't
give us 10Mbit connections to the 'net. I've been here less
than a week, and I've already stayed up past 5am and missed
my morning lectures a fair few times. Today I managed to
miss the first 'Mathematical Techniques in Computing' - as
it was timetabled badly - but I'm assured it was just
simple logic. Which is okay.

Excitement.

Bought myself a cd-burner today. This means
that I get to do some backing up, and... re-install Debian!
Yaay! Fun! *g* I've been meaning to do it for ages; keep
putting kernel compiles off, but no longer. v4l and ipmasq
*will* be in my kernel (which will be 2.4.0-test8 for the
v4l) by tomorrow. :)

Goings-on

Wow. It's been ages. Anyway. I got my exam
results
back in mid-August, and found out that not only was I in
the top ten of results for my college this year (scary), I
got in to my first choice for Uni, UMIST. This is good, as I'll
get to meet lots of funky UNIX people, and hang around at
Probably The Best Sci/Tech Institute In The Country. Always
fun. I move in to Fairfield House this Friday, the 15th.

Non Goings-on.

Well, I didn't make it to the expo, mainly
thanks to
pessimism. If those annoying exam results (released while
the expo was on) weren't good enough for UMIST, I would
have had to hang around on the phone to other universities
all day and go up for interviews etc. But they were fine,
and I beat their entry requirement by six grades. Which is
quite a lot. D'oh. I should have gone to LWE. :(

Hopeful goings-on.

ALS is going to be too close to the start of
term
for me to get there, as I'll still be settling in from
moving from the south coast of England to the north of
England, and getting used to not knowing anyone within 300
miles at all. :) I'm definitely going to the LWE in New
York next Feb., though. Oh yes.

Weird-but-cool project of the day is the g2000
party
over at nerve.org.uk.
We're having a LAN party in a disused nuclear bunker in
December. More info on the site.

Anyone know the way to San Jose?

Today was okay. Hecticness at work; we now have three
printers and a fax machine down, and just about everyone I
needed to get in touch with was either 'not in the
office today' or in a meeting. Bah. In other, better news
I decided that I'm going to try and make the trip to San
Jose from England for the LWE in August. If anyone's going,
let me know, 'cause I'm going to run out of things to do
and get way bored. *g*

Wearables.

Got my photos from the 1st UK Wearables meet back today.
I'll be writing an article up for
iUniverse, so keep an eye out for a kickass piece of
writing. It was a great day.
