An engineering Ph.D student at my local higher Ed. institutional has passed her candidacy exam and dissertation proposal only 3 weeks ago. One morning, her electronic pass to gain access to research lab wouldn't let her in. Later, she learned that PI of her research group has fired her. If no other research group will take her in, does it translate to the fact that her Ph.D study/career with this particular institution is finished? I hope it is for good reason to expel her thus by the PI.
