yippee, its been a while in the making - we "shipped" a new version 0.970 of mojonation today.

i went for a bike ride in the morning after dropping my car off for its regular service & smog. i (foolishly:) volunteered to go on a 40 mile morning ride with a friend in a couple days, i need to build up my endurance again.

xgavin pointed out a nice article on irc: Robert C Martin on expressiveness and language choice. Of course I call it good because it pretty much sums up a lot of what I believe. :)

PlayStation 2's are evil, they take up too much time. My roommate won one from a radio station last week. Oh darn. :)

Released a new version of the python interface to BerkeleyDB 3.1 today. It now works with python 1.5.2 and 1.6 out of the box. Get py-bsddb3 2.2.0 here.

I am very happy with the python distutils package. I just converted py-bsddb3 to use it. I have noticed the roughness around the edges in terms of unimplemented or undocumented features but the code is easy enough to read to quickly figure out what it can currently do. (though I do have to say I prefer undocumented features to unimplemented but documented features!)

(sigh) I should join the python-dev mailing list. For a while py-bsddb3 was being considered for addition to the next python release but I haven't been able to follow up on that. Someone even started creating an un-swigified version that I should try and make time to follow up on.

busy busy busy...

It just occurred to me that this might be a good place to search.. I need a roommate to share my 2 bedroom apartment in Mountain View, CA. If you're interested, email me at greg at krypto.org or give me a call at 650-965-7218. -greg

cpw regarding xfree86 4.0:

I've been using it (and beta 3.9.x versions) for about a year now and haven't had any problems with virtual consoles. I compiled and installed it myself on my debian system. It's probably not an xfree86 problem. Mandrake's setup might not enable your VCs at your current "start using X" runlevel. The VESA DDC support is the entire reason I'm using 4.0 on my home machine. I never could figure out proper 3.3.x modelines for 1600x1200x85Hz but the DDC support does it beautifully!

Tip of the day! Never stab your thumb with kitchen scissors while trying to remove the foil from a bottle of Sherry. On the other hand it is kinda eery looking into a super clean cut on my thumb that doesn't really hurt and isn't bleeding much... yuck.

This "alancoxonachip.com" thing is annoying. I had to lookup how to add unblock rules to junkbuster (add ~advogato.*.* to my /etc/junkbuster/blockfile after the ad.*.* line) as well as add the new host to my allowable outgoing cookies list. Why the change?!?

I've been working -way- too much in the past month (you can check the cvs logs for proof!). Mojo Nation is coming along and is starting to actually work the way we had in mind. Much more work remains to be done (as always).

This is exciting! Our first public & opensource release of Mojo Nation is tonight at DEFCON in Las Vegas. We've been working -many- long hours the past few weeks to get everythin ready.

I feel unclean. I had to buy a $20 UltraATA66 controller for my new hard drive since my motherboard's controller didn't like it. I never thought I would intentionally buy an IDE controller. What a waste of a PCI slot. Anyways it all works now and I built a kernel with the multiide and reiserfs and usb patches to play around with.

"Did you have a nice holiday?"
"I was in solitary confinement!"
"Oh, its good to get some time to yourself."

Advogato UI suggestion: When posting comments, I sure wish it would leave the original article I'm replying to (or at least its title, subject, author name and headline paragraph) on the reply form page.

As it is now, I have to open a new browser window and pop the article back up in it; then deal with switching windows...

(this wouldprevent me from being "lazy" and referring to "the author" in my reply rather than using their name ;)

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
