Sometimes I think what GNOME really is. GNOME is a Desktop Environment created to satisfy the community hackers for all their needs. It's something that we (community) created to make our computer experience the most advanced ever.

After looking at the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 videos, I realize that what they have done with GNOME is completely wrong. Not only the user experience was dropped to a very low standard, but the entire new looks and management resemble a completely idiotic system created for the grandma user. Innovation comes with change and the ones that really understand this are the ones that make the difference.

Eventually I've been thinking in starting an open-source service such as advogato, in the meanwhile add more features to it, but still be completely opened.

The great thing about advogato is its simpleness and elegancy, also the originality which is very important in such a project. A good service will outstand the user point of view, and probably something like many things added together could result in a good efficent and powerful money grabber. I would frankly say that probably a set of features like a calender, some XMPP online system, a mail service, a blog service (like advogato), and many others (will grow with time and innovation) would most defenitly design the site as a great success, because of the open-source.

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.

Keep up with the latest Advogato features by reading the Advogato status blog.
