Re-evaluating two stalwart corporations in my software world. It seems ideology matters in the long haul (knew that). VA Research/Linux/Software is still plugging along (after evaporating my $4K friends-and-families investment) and I've finally realized that they are simply Slashdot++. When they bought Andover they decided their future as a media/content provider for the open-source future. Sourceforge still works, things eventually get fixed, I can't complain.
The other corporation that has impressed me with their stick-to-it-tiveness is Apple. I bought my first Apple (a IIe with Microsoft Basic) in 1980. Two decades later they have made computing fun for me again. BSD under the hood. iPod++ on top. And X11 thrown in, packaged to look the same as Cocoa?
Ok, I'm also impressed with the stick-to-it-tiveness of Advogato. Maybe someday raph will get back to me on that interview for the Vector Graphics Foundry (do you still read every diary entry? probably not...).
