We are running 4 tracks at OLS this year. We got so many great paper submissions, ajh decided to add another track. He's working on scheduling now. Things are progressing.

Registration for OLS is open!

We have reviewed the papers, and we've contacted most of the speakers who've been accepted. We still need to contact the ones who weren't accepted.

Expect the schedule to go up soon!

Business:

The call for papers for OLS 2002 is here.

Personal:

Andrew is making chainmail. Like, real, ringed, "hit me with a bastard sword, you bastard," chainmail.

Dial me a mood

I'm taking a break from the computing I do recreationally for a while. No IRC, games, newsgroups or QA. I'm thinking about asking for some time off, but I don't think I'll get it, since our year-end is coming up soon, which involves a lot of work. I'd love to go somewhere, anywhere different.

I haven't felt up to the task of writing a diary entry for the last month. Recently, I haven't felt like doing a lot of things.

I remember borrowing her books when I used to visit. I'd come over to play with her sister, who was around my age. She had extremely long hair when I knew her. Longer than her waist. But she had cut it short recently and was unhappy about it. She was going to grow it back.

It's funny the things you remember about people. I wasn't really all that close to her. And now she's gone. No more time to get to know her better.

Am I a wreck? No. And I feel guilty about that. Because some part of me thinks I should be. I feel like I'm out of phase with the rest of the world. Nothing feels normal. Everything is on hold. If someone could let me know when I'll feel normal again, I'd appreciate it.

Still no word.

My aunt called late last night. My cousin Jenn lives in Troy NY, but she'd gone down to NYC with some friends to do some touristy type things over the weekend. She was supposed to be back today. My aunt hasn't heard from her. Or any of her friends. The phone lines are busy, impossible to get through. My aunt keeps calling the emergency line the mayor gave out, busy. She'll let me know if she hears anything more.

To all you guys who keep debating politics;

  • "patriotic bullshit"
  • "Fortress America"
  • "Supply guns to rebels in various countries to maintain civil wars that are beneficial to the USA."
  • "The US is a target because of their overbearing foreign policy and disregard for the rest of the world."
  • I just want my cousin back safe and sound, you insensitive jerks.

Where do we go from here?

I'm still in shock I guess.

It looks like mirwin has another account called idot. He's forgotten the second i in his new name! Now there are two accounts to scroll through, two accounts to ignore.

We need a maximum diary length for the recentlog, maybe make it so that anything over a page long gets cut off. It makes better sense than outright censoring. Actually, maybe I'll post an article on this idea, I think it's a good one.

    Tick Tock, Tick Tock

I've decided to update my hopepage. I added more details about myself, and some groovy pictures.

    Don't forget to decertify mirwin!

LWN has a story on Dmitry Sklyarov this week.

Is it just me, or does this whole thing remind you of Paranoia?

Though deranged, The Computer believes it is doing the right thing. It strongly believes that Alpha Complex is in danger of being invaded by Communists or Mutants (or even mutant commies), and to this end it invented Troubleshooter Teams.

Now replace The Computer with The US Government, Alpha Complex with the US, and Troubleshooter Teams with the FBI. Sound familiar?

    Don't forget to decertify mirwin!
