Notes:

I am a Ph.D candidate in Philosophy and a network planner for the online side of a print paper. I teach Philosophy at a local Community College, produce liberally licensed code and occupy the curious mental space of being both an academic and network engineer.

My dissertation argues that Heidegger's notion of truth is best understood as part of a narrative chronology, thus neatly sidestepping the rather thorny issue of the problem of the "early" and "late" Heidegger (as I claim these distinctions aren't particularly useful).

My software projects tend toward firewall configuration tools, gShield (a full-featured iptables-firewall script), ipftools (a set of perl scripts for generating skeleton ipf/ipnat rulesets), and turnstyle (pending - ipftools for pf).

I released netsane, a script to easily configure multipath routing under linux. While not perfect, nor particularly robust, it's been damn nice having my workstation truly multihomed and able to use both independent routes.

gshield, version 3, should be released Real Soon Now. Since I moved back to Virginia work on gShield has been slow, and I discovered this week that the former debian maintainer for gShield has not only orphaned the package, but actually urged against another maintainer taking it over. I would have preferred something a bit more constructive, but there you have it. I discovered a while back that gShield is included within Gentoo's package system, which was pleasing. Package system often -do- serve a vital function.

Dissertation work is still in limbo -- damn hard to be able to get into the mental space I require to write. I -need- to fix that.
