Oh, and the sendmail problem I was having turned out to be DNS issues at my ISP, nothing to do with the unrelated packages I'd upgraded, which is also re-assuring.
New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
