Mr. President: End #Arctic Drilling Now - #oilspill #bigoil

Hi,

Shell Oil has been trying for the past year to start drilling
operations in the Arctic, and already there have been several near
disasters and blunders that heighten our concern over drilling in the
risky climate of the Arctic. Shell will be trying again this year,
threatening to spoil the pristine environment of the Arctic. We need
an energy policy that reduces consumption of oil, not increases it.

That's why I signed a petition to President Barack Obama.

I'm really enjoying the NSSF website today. http://www.nssf.org Let's Go Shooting!

The mission of the National Shooting Sports Foundation is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. To that end, we encourage hunters and shooters to invite a newcomer or even a lapsed participant to join/rejoin our ranks.

Stop big banks from pushing poor families further into poverty

Dear Friend,

Some of the nation's largest banks are looking to make obscene profits by
exploiting some of the country's poorest people, and we need to make sure
federal banking regulators put a stop to it.

Banks like Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank, Fifth Third Bank and Regions Bank have
started marketing payday loans to their customers.

These short-term, high-interest loans are blatantly predatory. The cost of
these loans is equivalent on average to more than a 300% annualized
interest rate.

And while payday lenders like to pretend it's a solution to a short-term
cash crunch, the fact is that they make their money when loan recipients
pay off one loan by taking out another payday loan, thereby falling into a
cycle of debt that's hard to escape.

Tell federal banking regulators: Stop predatory payday lending by some of
the country's biggest banks.

Protect our students from the predatory private loan industry

Dear Friend,

Americans now owe more money in student debt than credit card debt,
with recent college graduates on the hook for more than $1 trillion in
unpaid loans.

Many of these loans - about $150 billion worth - are private loans,
which have outrageously-high interest rates and are usually extended
under harsh terms without basic consumer protections, resulting in a
crushing financial burden on college students and graduates. Worse
yet, unlike credit cards and other similar types of debt, a law pushed
through Congress by former President George W. Bush prevents students
from discharging private student loan debt through bankruptcy
proceedings, which gives special protections to the private loan
industry at the expense of students and recent graduates.

Fortunately, two members of Congress - Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) and
Rep. Danny Davis (D-IL) - - have introduced legislation entitled the
Private Student Loan Bankruptcy Fairness Act of 2013 that would treat
privately issued student loans the same as other types of private debt
in bankruptcy, providing much needed relief and consumer protections
to working-class college students and recent graduates.

I just signed a petition urging my representative to co-sponsor this
common sense legislation and give college students and recent
graduates who are struggling in the weak economy the consumer
protections they deserve. I hope you will do the same.

Mr. President: Stop Immoral #Drone Strikes - #drones

Hi,

On Sept 14, 2001, Congress passed the Authorization for Use of Military Force, freeing the president to send drones into Pakistan or other countries.  Opponents of this despicable policy claim hundreds of civilians have been killed, despite denials by the administration.  In its protest of nominee John Brennan as head of the CIA, Code Pink brought a list of names of victims, many of them children.  We are Being Lied To Yet Again!

That's why I signed a petition to The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama, which says:

"Let's help Rep. Barbara Lee of Oakland, the only member of congress who voted against it, in her call to repeal the Authorization for Use of Military Force; demand that the president acknowledge the deaths of civilians; and stop drone attacks now."

Last chance to stop "frankenfish" GMO salmon

Dear Friend,

Late last year the FDA quietly took a major step toward approving
AquaBounty's "frankenfish" genetically modified salmon.

Its approval would be a radical move by the FDA - the first genetically
modified animal ever to enter our food supply. It's no wonder the FDA
posted its final review, clearing the way for approval, on the Friday
before the Christmas holiday, when few people would notice.

The FDA is now taking public comments on its study, which is expected to
lead to approval of the frankenfish. This is our last chance to keep GMO
salmon off our grocery store shelves, and stop the dangerous trend of
introducing GM animals into our food supply.

Tell the FDA: Don't approve GMO Salmon. Submit a public comment now.
