Act Now to Stop the Great Basin Water Grab

The Southern Nevada Water Authority wants to siphon away ancient groundwater from the Great Basin in Nevada and Utah and pump it 300 miles to fuel new Las Vegas sprawl, This will fundamentally damage the region's water systems and all the animals that have depended on it for thousands of years.

We have to keep the Great Basin's fragile web of life intact -- take action now.

The pipeline would drain more than 37 billion gallons of water a year and export it to the driest desert in North America, sucking away the lifeblood of a wild area the size of Vermont. Greater sage grouse, Bonneville cutthroat trout, pronghorn and elk would suffer. Fourteen types of desert fish and 25 species of springsnails could die out completely.

This dangerous project is at an important decision point. We need your help today to stop the right-of-way application for the pipeline.

Take action below to tell Interior Secretary Ken Salazar that there are better options for Las Vegas than stealing the heart of the Great Basin.

Take action by using this Web address: http://action.biologicaldiversity.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY...

Another multibanding tool, Postling

Today, I have really been enjoying this multibanding tool, Postling,
http://www.postling.com. There are already some good reviews of
Postling out there, so I'll make this short. If you have been using
Ping.fm, or HelloTxt, this may be the right time to migrate to
Postling. Here is a link to our example.

http://proclus.postling.com/
Postling has a neat display and interface, and the status updater can
auto-shorten your URL's with bit.ly, and link to your bit.ly account.
It alerts you when you have a message on Twitter, etc. There is a
paid service, which provides for multiple channels. This is just
scratching the surface, and it is well worth a look.
There is much more that I could say about redundancy of service, of
over-reliance on services like Twitter and Facebook, and of the
importance of multibanding social media for amplifying the democratic
voice in a manner that cannot be easily removed from the Internet.
I've said it all repeatedly elsewhere. Hope that my friends will take
it to heart, as I would not want some corporation to decide for me that I
should no longer hear their beautiful voices.
Regards,
proclus
