An #OpBlackout tagwrap 4U- #wikileaks #syriafiles #selex #wlgrandjury #tetra

OpBlackout tag wraps are periodically generated to highlight topics
that are germane to digital liberties and liberties in general. The
intent is to honor and preserve the net freedom that we fought for by
engaging in a strident form of online expression and virtual assembly.
By bringing together our disparate areas of interest, we find out what
we have most in common. Together, we are powerful.

These tag wraps are usually ordered by priority, but the ordering can
be sloppy and unreliable. Enjoy exploring these timely subjects.

proclus

Tell your Representative: Americans need a raise

Dear Friend,

The need to keep pressing Congress on behalf of working class Americans to raise the minimum wage remains urgent. At just $7.25 an hour, or roughly $15,000 per year, the current federal minimum wage is leaving millions of hard working Americans in poverty.

While we continue to work with Senator Tom Harkin and key allies to push the issue in the U. S. Senate, a key member of the House Democratic Leadership - Representative George Miller from California - just introduced parallel legislation on the House side that increases the minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.80 by 2014 then indexes it to inflation thereafter. He has asked his colleagues in the House to co-sponsor the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2012.

It is crucial for us to generate support for Representative Miller's effort because it will provide broader momentum for increasing the minimum wage in both chambers of Congress.

I just signed a petition urging my Repesentative to cosponsor Representative Miller's legislation to raise the minimum wage. I hope you do too. You can sign the petition and find out more information at the link below.

Navy to deafen 15,900 whales and dolphins and kill 1,800 more

Hi,

The Navy is required to include comments on their Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) re: the use of high frequency underwater sound for testing in Hawaii, the California and Atlantic Coasts, and the Gulf of Mexico. According to their estimates it will deafen more than 15,900 whales and dolphins and kill 1,800 more over the next 5 years. Whales and dolphins depend on sound to navigate and live. Your signature and comment will have to be included in the EIS and could stop this Naval program, potentially saving the lives of these ocean creatures. The comments must be in by July 10, 2012.

That's why I signed a petition to U.S. Navy EIS Comments.

Will you sign this petition? Click here:

Tell the EPA: Keep Diesel Out of Our Water

Hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," is a dangerous drilling technique threatening water, air, wildlife and public health all over the United States. It's done by blasting millions of gallons of a chemical-water-sand mixture deep into the Earth to break up rock formations to harvest oil and gas.

In 2005, in a law known as the "Halliburton loophole," Congress exempted the chemicals used in fracking from regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act --with one exception: diesel fuel. The Environmental Protection Agency has just asked for public comment on how it should regulate the use of diesel fuel in fracking.

Evidence is mounting throughout the country that fracking chemicals are making their way into aquifers and drinking water, and diesel contains the toxic substances benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene. Risking more chemical contamination of our drinking water is a no-go.

Take action to tell the EPA to take the immediate step of banning the use of diesel in fracking fluid.

Become a citizen co-sponsor of the DISCLOSE Act of 2012 to end secret election spending.

Dear Friend,

The U.S. Supreme Court's disastrous Citizens United v. FEC ruling has unleashed a torrent of anonymous campaign spending into our political system. Corporations have been able to exert a massive influence on our electoral process without being subject to any accountability for that influence.

Progressive champion Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is fighting back by pushing Congress to pass the DISCLOSE Act. And he has asked the public to join him as citizen co-sponsors.

Become a citizen co-sponsor of the DISCLOSE Act of 2012 to end secret election spending.
