No "get out of jail free" card for Wall Street bankers.

Dear Friend,

If the financial crimes task force President Obama announced in his State of the Union speech doesn't hand down criminal indictments soon, we might never see Wall Street bankers held accountable for causing the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression.

So it is deeply worrying that Congressman Brad Miller, who has been a real advocate for Wall Street accountability, recently said he was told months ago by the office of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, one of the task force's five co-chairs, not to expect criminal indictments from the task force.

If we want to see criminal Wall Street bankers behind bars, we must insist that President Obama and the co-chairs of the financial fraud task force do not take criminal prosecutions off the table.

I just signed a petition to them about this, and I hope you do as well.

There's more information and an easy way to sign the petition at the link below.

Stop Shell

Dear Friend,

For several days, activists in New Zealand occupied a Shell drill ship
and prevented it from leaving port, exposing Shell's efforts to move
their operations to one of the last pristine environments on the
planet -- the Arctic. The same thing happened a few weeks later in
Finland.

I've already joined these activists and sent a message to Shell
myself. You can do the same by clicking on the link below...

Punish Bush and Cheney First

I've just asked Congress to punish Bush and Cheney before going after foreign nations' officials for crimes that our former president and vice president have confessed to. Will you join me? http://bit.ly/Imk9dp

Stop the Slaughter of U.S. Turtles

Freshwater turtles are facing more and more devastating overharvest in the United States for sale to the pet industry and food and medicinal markets in Asia. Beautiful map turtles are already endangered, and unregulated international trade is rapidly destroying them and other native turtles.

Protection under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species would put limits on international trade and monitor their populations.

In response to a petition filed by the Center for Biological Diversity, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced that it may propose 17 species of U.S. freshwater turtles for CITES protection at the next meeting in Thailand. The agency has invited the public to comment on which species should be listed.

Please take action now to tell the Service to protect U.S. freshwater turtles from falling victim to an insatiable international market.

Take action by using this Web address: http://action.biologicaldiversity.org/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=10334

Release Yemeni journalist Abdulelah Haider Shaye

Hi,

I wanted to draw your attention to this important petition that I recently signed:

"Release Yemeni journalist Abdulelah Haider Shaye"
http://ping.fm/LbcbB
I really think this is an important cause, and I'd like to encourage you to add your signature, too. It's free and takes just a few seconds of your time.

Thanks!

PS, US needs to arrange the release of this journalist very soon. ;-)

Regards,
proclus

Slam the Senate

Friends,

We pushed them to the brink, but the House Republicans rammed through CISPA this afternoon, ahead of schedule. Let's make sure it dies in the Senate.

Please click here to email your Senators:

http://act.demandprogress.org/letter/cispa_passes/?referring_akid=1332.45919....

CISPA would give the government and corporations vast new powers to track and share data about Americans' Internet use.

But our hundreds of thousands of emails and tens of thousands of phone calls have had a real impact:

-Amendments were adopted that made CISPA (marginally) better.

-Earlier this month CISPA was supposed to sail through, but we helped foment opposition, and the vote was far closer than anybody could have imagined even a couple of weeks ago.

-Most Democrats held firm in opposition, and more than two dozen libertarian-leaning Republicans defied their leadership and voted no.

-Most importantly, President Obama has threatened to veto CISPA.

The Senate will consider cyber security legislation in the coming weeks. Let's turn up the heat right away: Tell the Senate to reject CISPA and any and all legislation that doesn't respect privacy and civil liberties.

Just click here:

Thanks!
