Don't Iraq Iran

Hi,

Will you join me in co-signing a letter that tells the President and Congress to reject calls to start a war with Iran? We've been here before, and if we act soon enough we can stop a disastrous war. Click here http://bit.ly/xF6CxV.

Tell Eric Holder: Release secret memos authorizing assassination of Americans without judicial review

Dear Friend,

Not even the Bush Administration had the audacity to publicly and explicitly assert the right to execute Americans citizens without judicial review. But in a speech at Northwestern University this week, Attorney General Eric Holder offered a detailed defense of the Obama Administration's unprecedented step of authorizing targeted executions of American citizens through a secretive CIA assassination program.

Holder defended a secret assassination program of Americans abroad by arguing constitutional protections of "due process" do not include "judicial process." The constitution does not allow the executive to be judge, jury and executioner.

The ACLU has filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit seeking information about the assassination program, but Holder's Justice Department has responded to the request by saying they can neither confirm nor deny the existence of any records. We need to pressure the Department of Justice to release all legal documents that related to the purported "justification" of the Obama Administration's extra-judicial killings.

It is unacceptable and unconstitutional for the executive branch of the U.S. government to secretly kill American citizens abroad without due process that includes impartial judicial review. I just told Holder: Release the documents the Obama Administration is using to justify its authority to kill American citizens without judicial review.

Will you join me and speak up to defend our Constitution today? Thank you.

Secret TPP rounds continue

This week in Melbourne, Australia, trade negotiators and their corporate sponsors began another round of secret negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement. This deal is branded as a trade pact, but really at issue is a backdoor attack on a wide array of domestic policies.

From financial regulation to Buy America procurement and all sorts of new rights for large corporations, corporate advisors have access to hundreds of pages of draft treaty text that is being kept secret from the press and public.

Take a moment to alert your governor and members of Congress about this secret attack on the environment, public health and even our justice systems.

Privacy nightmare

Friends,

Let's cut to the chase. Here's the ACLU's take on John McCain's new cybersecurity bill:

"This is a privacy nightmare that will eventually result in the military substantially monitoring the domestic, civilian Internet."

Will you fight back against McCain's legislation by emailing your lawmakers? Just click here:

http://act.demandprogress.org/letter/mccain_cybersecurity/?referring_akid=126...

There's a power struggle brewing over cybersecurity, with two Senate factions butting heads. One group is backing a bill that is - surprisingly - not horrendous in its privacy implications. (You can take partial credit for this, as that bill was written with every desire to avoid awakening the powerful coalition that killed SOPA a few weeks ago.)

But McCain's side wants to enable the military to snoop on civilian Internet users: As Reuters notes, the "types of information that could be shared are broad, and the data would go to 'cybersecurity centers' that specifically include the National Security Agency's Threat Operations Center and the U.S. Cyber Command Joint Operations Center."

We have a key opportunity to help steer this debate away from McCain's inanity and towards a more reasonable alternative. Please click here to email your lawmakers:

http://act.demandprogress.org/letter/mccain_cybersecurity/?referring_akid=126...

Thanks.

Healthy pomegranate nut fudge with blueberries is the latest variation on the weekend fudge indulgence, but it is also a wonderful component of a good diet.  Cocoa lovers can add a serving of peanut butter to the fudge, and the portion is expanded to 4 squares.   You will not be disappointed, but remember that you have used your nut serving for the day!  Pecans and walnuts add a delightful texture.  A bit of fresh squeezed orange juice enhances the chocolate flavor considerably, but it also takes the edge off of the secret ingredient, a dash of fresh ground pepper.  If you add pepper and citrus juice, don't forget to make a small amount of fudge, because it should be eaten right away, not a problem for most people I should think ;-}.  I substituted pomegranate juice concentrate for agave nectar, which adds enormously to the healthful polyphenolic content of the fudge, and remarkably, the large punicalagin tannin molecules are known to be absorbed into the blood stream and exert their beneficial effect in the body.  The pomegranate concentrate also makes for sweet fudge, tangy, and tasty!  If you are interested in the recipe, here is the link.

Happy solstice!  As readers of this blog will know, parsley regimen has helped considerably with my allergies this past spring, and that this is likely due to the effects of parsley apigenin.  Another problem that I have had every allergy season for the past several years is cold sores, which erupt with the allergies in the sunny days of spring. Happily, I was surprised that I had no cold sores at all this spring for the first time in years.

Not only has this been my best allergy season in years, but I have also been completely free of cold sores.  That was an unexpected but obviously pleasant result, and perhaps it is no surprise, because of the noted anti- retroviral properties of certain flavonoids, which interfere with key enzymes that the viruses need to transcribe their DNA and insert it into the genome.  I had thought that this property would be mild and insignificant, but it is apparently sufficient to quell the virus that causes cold sores for a season.  It should be noted that that sun exposure and allergy flare ups may lead directly to retroviral activation and cold sores, so that the effects are likely convoluted and conclusions are not sure.  At least I have certainly enjoyed a pleasant spring this year with comparatively dry nostrils, and I will gladly do without the cold sores as well.  I consider the case closed.

This result may be hopeful for victims of herpes simplex infections in general, as well as other retroviral infections, such as HIV AIDS.  I would be surprised if people in these communities are not already aware of this, and it will be interesting to see if anything comes of it.  A convolution of immunological effects is also clear in these cases, so that the benefits may likewise be ancillary.

If you are new to the blog, you might like to read further for information about the parsley regimen.  You will certainly be surprised by how much parsley is required to achieve the desired effects.  This problem is compounded by the fact that flavonoid absorption is typically poor,  but recipes are provided to help overcome these problems.  After months on the program, I am delighting in the tasty flavor of healthful parsley spice.

Michael L. Love: Elderberry nut fudge with blueberries

Flavonoid packed elderberry nut fudge with blueberries is a wonderful weekend indulgence.  Add a serving of peanut butter to the fudge, and the portion is expanded to 4 squares.  As usual, I couldn't resist eating one before taking the picture, and I am sending warm cocoa feelings to you ;-}.  I also added some pecans, walnuts, abit of fresh lemon juice and a dash of fresh ground pepper.  If you are interested in the recipe, here is the link.

Work on the fudge recipe continues.  Although I have been very busy with other things, I could not resist sharing my latest recipe idea.  Last weekend when I was causing my Memorial Day ruckus and getting my Twitter account temporarily suspended, I was enjoying elderberry fudge.

As some of you probably know, elderberry is the queen of the berries with respect to flavonoid content, and Vitacost offers some fine elderberry extracts in order to maximize the flavonoid content.  With elderberry combined with cocoa, this fudge is a literal flavonoid blast!

I must apologize that this recipe is still experimental, and I am having a hard time getting exact portion measurements, so you might have to adjust the ratio of elderberry extract to cocoa powder in order to get the desired consistency.  It should also be noted that this preparation is likely easily adapted as healthful and delicious cocoa/berry spread and syrup.  In fact, this preparation is so beneficial and tasty that I thought it imperative to share the recipe, even though it is still somewhat unfinished.

The key idea was to substitute elderberry extract for the agave nectar from the previous fudge recipe.  Unlike the agave nectar, elderberry extract has concentrated astringent solutes, so that it is necessary to add quite abit more extract than agave nectar in order to match the moisture content.  In my judgement this also made the fudge much more sticky, and so I have adjusted the recipe and preparation in order to address this problem and reduce the preparation time.

Before proceeding with the recipe, it should also be noted that the elderberry extract is far more expensive than agave nectar, so it is likely that this recipe is more for special occasions.  Here is the recipe for two portions.

    2 heaping tablespoons cocoa powder
    4 tablespoons elderberry extract
1/2 teaspoon low lignan flax or olive oil

Mix ingredients and/or knead until the desired consistency is obtained.  It may be necessary to add more cocoa or extract in order to obtain the desired result.  If you scale up, use a food processor and save yourself much work.  You might obtain soft granules that look a little like coffee grounds, which works pretty well. Press the fudge into suitable containers and cut into squares.

If you are using highly concentrated extract, then it might be necessary to sweeten with a teaspoon of agave nectar.  Substitution of other fruit concentrates, such as cranberry, pomegranate, blueberry, or cherry will likely work as well, although the flavonoid content will be somewhat lower.  The oil reduces the stickiness and makes the fudge easier to handle, but it also likely improves the absorption of the flavonoids vastly.  In my subjective experience, this recipe is comparable to parsley in terms of the flavonoid impact.  Please enjoy this delicious fudge, and the intended health benefits as well!  Write in and let me know what you think of it.

Michael L. Love: Without your health, you have nothing

I find it odd that seemingly intelligent people are willing to criticize the prominence that health-related information receives on the internet.  Some of them are technologists, capitalists, politicians, or hardcore physical scientists, who certainly have pursuits outside the realm of healthful conduct, and financial interests that are at odds with the public good.  Perhaps they think that they will find enjoyment of their technology without good health.  How absurd!  As for the rest of us, we will continue our zealous pursuit of health-related information, so that we can continue to improve the fundamental essence of what we are.  We will continue to watch over our communities and protect our children from harm.  In due course, we will see which group is better enjoying their technology.

    Parsley, a brain food?

Parsley apigenin, like other flavonoids, slows the breakdown of the feel good hormones, such as the body’s endogenous cannabinoids and opiods.  Additionally, it acts similarly in the synapses of the brain, slowing the breakdown of the neurotransmitter chemicals that promote neural activity.  Although these effects are mild, they do appear to be significant and dose dependent, so that people on the high dose regimen described in this blog will benefit most.

It is safe to say that I love parsley, no doubt due to some of the above effects, and it reminds me very much of my early GNU-Darwin hacking days.  Now, we will be hacking the body, hacking longevity, intelligence, strength, and health.  Read further in the blog for more information about how this is to be done.  It should be noted that effects like these are best experienced within the context of a healthy lifestyle, which means fitness, a healthy diet, and a supplementation program that is consistent with those aims.  In fact, nothing should be at odds with these aims.  Such vigor is the true objective, no?

NO exposure to X-rays is safe. My advice is to stop flying. The added benefit is no contribution to an immense pollution.  The news pages are littered with stories of activists that relied over-much on air travel, and they were taken into custody by hostile governments or had their passports revoked.  It is such a waste, especially when it is so much better to use the internet to spread ideas.

Now our privacy is being aggregiously violated at the airports in obvious violation of both the spirit and letter of the Bill of Rights.  It is time to say enough and stop giving our money to this evil machine.  If you are with me, you will stop flying today.

How did we get into this awful situation?  It is by neglecting some obvious truths and warnings that we have been recieving for years.  Airplanes are such easy targets for those who have a complaint against the US government, and it is no surprise to see that they are a favorite point of attack.  Air travel is one of the worst sources of pollution that was ever invented.  We have known these facts for decades, but we have neglected them, so that today people are ready to paraded themselves through X-ray camaras in order to get on an airplane.  Clearly air travel has become a symbol of western excess.  How absurd it has become.

As for me, superman can keep his X-ray eyes far away.  He should not be surprised when someone attempts to pluck them out.

    Hunger manipulation for profit

An important fact which may be elluding us may be that excessive hunger results directly from a market-driven manipulation of appetites.  The equation is simple; drive hunger and sell more food to make more money, even if it makes people fat and unhealthy.  There are conclusive examples that demonstrate that this is actually happening in isolated anecdotal cases, of which MacDonalds, Burger King, and CocaCola are prominent examples.  These examples are important, because they demonstrate that this manipulation of hunger and thirst for profit is INTENTIONAL.  A common example is the use of excessive salt in foods, such as movie popcorn, to promote thirst and sell soft drinks, drinks that do not adequately quench thirst either, and may in fact promote thirst.  Sell more, buy more, eat more, get fat and unhealthy, while someone else gets rich.  By our over-indulgence, we are being fed upon.

This manipulation may not always be intentional, and some may be only following a market formulation, which appears to be successful in the sense of immediate profitability.  For example, many soda makers may not be aware that their recipies were designed ultimately not to quench thirst, but rather to promote it.  They stay in business, due to their successful market exploitation model, which was stumbled on or discovered.

These incidental examples are not the key point.  Further investigation into the systematic manipulation of appetites is indicated, in order to determine the extent and societal cost of these practices.  I suspect it is a wide spread problem with profound effects which are often highly adverse.  Our understanding of the biochemical basis of hunger and thirst adds a new level of threat in a regimen where businesses may manipulate our appetites at the molecular level.  They simply have too much to gain from such pursuits, and in the profit-driven model, it is irresistable for them.  It is likely that appetite manipulation research is already underway.

Some criticism of this thesis takes the following form.  How could anyone stay in business by selling food or drink that does not satisfy?  This is a ham-handed attempt to hide the obvious fact, that a more profitable business model is a situation where people will only be satisfied with more than they need, even if it is contrary to their well-being.  Appetites are particularly amenable to such exploitation because people derive satisfaction directly from eating and drinking.  Only a careful approach is needed to balance satiety and appetite in order to maximize profit.  Simply put, you may be satisfied temporarily, but if you get hungry sooner, you will buy more.  You will eat more initially in order to avoid it, and you will likely eat more than is healthful.  You will be more hungry than you should be later, but that does not matter to the seller, and if fact, that is what he is counting on.  It is a simple fallacy to say that market forces will drive such businesses out, and meanwhile people are suffering now.

It is clearly possible to obtain profits through the manipulation of appetites, and craven business interests have demonstrated repeatedly that they are willing to do something profitable, even if it is detrimental to people in general.  There are countless examples of this, tobacco, alcohol, and polluting industries to name just a few.  You may be convinced that their insidious products are harmless by their advertising campaigns and PR.  Hostile business practices work, and some business people even consider this as the normative goal in a regimen where only profits matter.  Let's get these crocodiles under control before they eat us up.

The more I think about this article, the more I think I am on to something, and the implications multiply. We can have a discussion about how do avoid these dangers right here, if you like. For example, it is implied to avoid eating at establishments that server alcohol, because they are likely to spike the food with too much salt in order to sell more drinks, twice the problem! This has gotten me interested in the relationship of fatty and high carb foods to thirst, so hopefully we will be learning more about that soon.

If you can think of more suggestions, please post them.

One of the things that prompted me to write this article is that I was unable to find any germane links in Google. If you know of others who have written helpfully about this topic, please feel free to post some links here.

Increased knowledge of hunger manipulation and appetite manipulation in general could be very helpful to people engaged in the following activities; weight reduction and loss, bodybuilding, diet programs, and health in general. If you know anyone who would be interested in this, be sure and give them a link to the article. The more people that we have thinking about this subject, the better.

BTW, I am thinking of getting a Bowflex tension rod apparatus in order to improve my strength training regimen. If you have any better solution, please let me know.

Would you drink radioactive KoolAid? This is no rhetorical question, as the disaster in Japan so easily demonstrates. I wonder how many people believe the government reports that there is no risk to human health. I have to say that I laughed, unfortunately, when I heard the government reports on the radio, because I knew that they were obviously lying.

What about the X-ray scanners? The BP oil spill? on and on? US practices of torture? No risk to human health? Do you suppose that such thugs would shrink from feeding you toxic food and calling it healthful and refreshing? Are you drinking the radioactive KoolAid?
