I've moved back to the San Francisco area and gotten a job working at proofpoint, inc.

great company, great job, very happy, especially happy to be out of the army and a civilian again.

Well, now I think I will be working again and I am gonna
be busy as h*## , I am to be working as a
contractor for Resilience, Inc. w/ my LDAP knowledge
and SAMBA knowledge as well. I also have to get a
talk ready for the Linuxworld Expo in San Francisco in
August...

Check it out:

<a href="http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/conf-sub-

Linuxworld Tuesday Morning

Check the particulars about my session about linux on
the desktop. Should be the third from the top

Theme: User Interfaces

well I guess I am about to get really busy...
oh wellers, life goes awry (or is that on?)

Still been banging around w/ Mac OS X lately as well,
its interesting to say the least...

Thats all for now.

Well, of late I have been banging my head about on OSX or
mostly on Darwin, I installed the Developer tools and have
been trying to compile open source stuff on it, and have
about 50-50 sucess. I can get most console based apps
working just fine w/ a newer version of config.guess and
config.sub from gnu.org, but some stuff just doesnt have the
right system calls for the Mach kernel I guess. I also
found a site where they have some apps that they purportedly
got to compile so I got their patched versions but no go...
wanted to get glib and gtk to compile on it so I can use
enlightenment w/ X. I do have X and a cool app called
Xdarwin that allows me to toggle between OS X's aqua to X
and back. I was pretty irritated that they have gcc on the
box and call it cc not gcc and its really the FSF's gcc that
they're acting as if its theirs. I hear you can run strings
on it and get the usual FSF and GPL type messages in the
binary, I also just symlinked cc to gcc and voila all code
that required gcc worked beautifully as well. sheesh, dorks.

Anyway, I hope to get better performance from X soon too,
theres some real hackers out there working on it, its
framebuffer shared w/ Aqua and its soooo sloooow.

But its fun! heh, so I will just keep poundin away at Darwin
learning as much as I can from it I guess...

Ok, So I have been spending untold hours hacking away at my apple box lately, having fun with Yellow Dog Linux.
The dern Cube has been a real chore to get working fully, I chatted w/ Paulus a bit and he gave me some
pointers,
but the best help I have had was from Jeramy at openprojects #ppclinux... thanks man! Anyway, I still wanna find
the bug thats causing my usb speakers (usb module audio) to hang the kernel completely... I guess I may need to
go back to one of the Paulus/BenH kernels, the standard 2.2.18 isnt beatiful, even though I hear that they merged
the Paulus/BenH code back into the 2.2.18 and 2.4 kernel.org tree, it seems a bit buggy. I dunno though, not like I
am a specialist on kernel internals heh. Well I guess thats my big first diary entry.

By the way, sometimes when you're queasy and hungover, a big hearty breakfast isnt necessarily the best
thing,
just an observation.
