It's Official-- dyork is becoming a Canadian. He may already be one. Curling! Holy Jazes, Dan! I've been a Canadian all my life, and I have yet to even step into a curling rink. This is like The Body Snatchers or something. What's next? ``zed''? Decent beer? Road hockey? Responsible Government?

Welcome, Dan. We're a little odd, but we make our own fun ;)

and nothing else. What's happening, Dan?

Over at OPAG (the Ottawa Python Authors Group), we're mulling over the idea of developing a console-based PIM (personal information manager). I'm wondering if there's a demand for such a program. If you're reading this, let me know.

On a mildy-related note, if someone could drop me a line to explain how to use the wiki tag, get in touch. zeevon, are you reading this? ;-)

Finally, is it only I, or are other people seeing advogato refuse to respond increasingly often? Heading to the site, following internal links and reloading pages here often seem to result in... well, nothing. It no talk. I put it down initially to other things, but I begin to think it's the advogato site.

Well, I haven't seen nothing, but response times are often very slow, particularly, in my experience, logging in, previewing, and posting.

Thanks, zeevon, for letting me know that I've been certified as an apprentice.

I've just created a new project page for The Ottawa Python Authors Group, OPAG. dyork is also (at least) a contributor. The home page I listed on the project page is not live yet; it should be in a week's time.

zeevon asks whether petroligarchy is my own neologism. The answer is yes. Yes yes yes. Please use it often -- it's one of my favorites, too, and it seems to fill a need.

Use These Words In Full Sentences!

  • one-man/one woman monkey patrol *personal descriptive* - A menace, permanent or otherwise, real or exaggerated. Example: ``Have you seen the Steve Ballmer dancing videos? That guy is a one-man monkey patrol!''

  • petroligarchy - Government, or effective rule, by a small group of oilmen (petroleum industrialists). The Dubya administration in the U.S. provides a good example. Example: ``The worldwide petroligarchy might destroy the Kyoto Accord.''

  • haircut blog - A Weblog that is filled with descriptions of mundane activities such as getting a haircut. By extension, a complete waste of time. See The Pseudodictionary for credits.

Congratulations to dyork on having begun French lessons! Picking up an expressive language (as opposed to a functional one) after childhood is always difficult -- you have to accept bewilderment for quite a while. Bonne chance, Dan! (And thanks for the advice re projects.)

  • How to apply the philosophies of Oriental martial arts in the world of OSS; i.e.: use one's opponent's force to one's advantage.
  • How to transform sesame bagels into a sqare meal.
  • How to apply the wiki tag into my page.

I see dave0 has started an OCLUG project page. How can I add my name to it as a contributor? Or to any other project, for all that?

First entry.Working mostly on the website for the Ottawa Python Authors Group. The site's not live yet, but will be soon. Other members include dyork.

I'm also psyching myself up for returning to school on July 23. I'll be attending the Praxis Training Institute here in Ottawa, Canada.

I have one or two articles in Linux Journal on their way.

So long for now!

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
