Four-teen Is The Perfect Starting Age

I had a long chat with a teen about starting a new lifestyle, called the teen geek lifestyle. Similar to a closet personality, developed in secrecy, hidden in the innermost chambers, shovelling away tons of code.

The Summer of 2007 is the perfect season to start it off. Mostly it will deal with lots of programming concepts and math (linear algeb) before going to 3D. That’s basically it for Summer 2007. It’s now set to go tomorrow, using those precious hours to digging math and coding concepts instead of wasting it to other stuff, but of course, everything in moderation.

Things Rattling Inside My Head

These are some of the things going around my head, which probably needs to be written and forgotten.

Variable Declaration

We’ve been chatting about variable declarations yesterday and somehow it got into the sensitive part of personal styles. The thing though was the code was meant to be shared among developers and that made it even more sensitive.

So, he’s a big fan of the verbose variable naming, which really sounds like a nail-scratching-off-the- board kind of thing. I still don’t understand why would someone punish himself for having to write long variable names. But hey, code is meant to be shared and these things will always get in the middle of arguments, though.

Here’s a little bit of history. The variable ‘I’ or ‘i’ is recognized as something coming from a tradition, that also goes with the variable letter J, K, M and N. I won’t go further describing the details, but then these will a ring a bell to those who were part of this tradition.

To go further, there is another cult or tradition wherein variables have this underscore character to separate words. They look funny coming from another tradition, but once you immerse yourself in this cult you’ll feel better. Anyway…

Going back, I couldn’t believe how long and tedious the effort went. This is going to be a long and painful coding for him.

An Interesting Story

I think it was yesterday or was it the other day when we were told of the story, how he joined Apple and became OK (successful) in his work. he didn’t elaborate more of it, maybe he’ll tell more in the future. The interesting part of the story was how that changed his life for the better.

Interesting to know there is someone here who can tell stories about Apple in those days.

To Be: Go To School

Finally, I got myself admitted to attend a class in Fall 2007.

I’m hoping to get more and learn more about this research I’m trying to work-in. This is not part of any paid work, but a personal ambition of simply knowing something that will hopefully make my life a little better.

Selfish? You betcha.

It’s really kind of strange to hear someone who is trying to escape school, wanting to leave the crap behind and go and make a buck in the real world. While here I am going back school to learn more and perhaps collaborate with those who are really into it.

I mean, you can look at it this way, there will be students who will be seeing school as some form of prison and professors as some form of authoritarian megalomaniac drooling over his students.

Two worlds, man.

Two worlds.

 Right there.

Ahh

Feels better now.

Quid Novi?

It's all about animation, now.

The transition happened a while back and my free time went to simply doing 2D animated shorts. Did a lot of them and used most the time playing around with motion capture and framing using Pers istence of Vision technique.

Moving to a new medium went smoothly, though. No hiccups along the way, but the most important thing learned was creating a character matching the personality.

Tweaking the smooths, steps and holds of the movement to bring the actor to life is simply amazing. I just couldn't believe the variety of character personalities could come out from simply adjusting these parameters.

The Re n and Stimpy animation style was definitely jam-packed with coolness, though. I just love these wacky crazy off- the-charts characters.

Icarus & the Tree Herder is cool, too. Though I need to figure out the animator's motion style which is kinda diffrent from mine.

Work: Double-Entry Accounting

I demoed the latest in-house tool for measuring performance, basically showing them a well-known accounting jutsu used since time immemorial--the double- entry jutsu.

Cut-off dates are going to be monthly with closing two days before data processing. He was impressed with the Jutsu I just made, err I mean copied from a standard.

FreeSoftware Tool

Still doing the FreeSoftware thing, though. I demoed to a friend the 3D irr::modeler module the other day. And he said I was crazy writing code for free.

Congrats

Salmoni, congratulations on your wedding. Looks like a big celebration followed the ceremony. The traditional shirt looks pretty good on you.

Recent News

You know what it’s like to be engaged in an intensely consuming problem. Days rolled-by as if they were like uniform markings, though at the end of it the solution finally emerged.

My senior mate who happens to be the co-owner of the company seems to be caught in a knot. The double-edged sword of cutting-edge technology cuts both ways. The steep learning curve seems to be the weight on hercules’ back. But then , of course, that’s what we’re here for, mitigating the impact brought about by the new-tech shock.

3D

I’ve been knee-deep into the math of 3D and 2D as well. Along with Mesalib, the tedium of repetition and the cacophony of formulae have pinned me to this sad sorry state. Oh, what is going on here? Why do I have to find the region bounded by a non-triangular mesh?

QA Tool

The new test-and-verify tool finally saw its first run through a series of test cases. It afforded me to cut the time of manually sizing it down to simple clicking of fancy-schmancy icons.

Are wa dattebayo?!  — Naruto

From the tune of ‘turning japanese.’

Watching anime is absolutely a good method of learning japanese. It turned out I had to borrow several books from the local library just to get several colloqualism of Naruto sorted out.

Testing And Verification

Development of the testing and verification tool is going-on at the moment. The initial code developed to take snapshots of an avatar’s global and local variables have been tested and are now being optimized.

The screenshot below show a basic render of an avatar’s bag, containing elements (in rectangles) having specific properties (oblong shape).

This is basically a developer tool used for looking into the simulacra.

With this tool, I can plug-in or connect to an avatar’s reality and then query this reality without having to enter as a spirit.

Of course, I’m using a different set of vocab to describe this interesting work. Meta-physics is such a nice set of terms to describe it, though.

 Intel Developer Manuals

It’s funny that I found myself reading the Intel Developer Manual once again. I couldn’t resist the urge to read the new stuff that came out recently, having to find new subsystems added to support newer features.

It looks like Intel’s roadmap for programming these systems are going the Multi-core route, called parallel programming.

Multi-Core Programming

You know, the Sony multi-core game console branded as PS/3 looks very interesting. In fact, I got the bill approved from Congress recently about the purchase of this great development environment. Not to mention the fact that this is also a game machine, capable of spewing out millions of polygons at breakneck speed.

A Modified Grameen-Network Model For Sotfware Development

The Grameen Model emerged from the grassroots providing the poor with enough credit to lift themselves out of poverty. Founded by Prof. Mohammed Yunus in Bangladesh, the Grameen model became widely accepted and succesful.

The key to the Model’s proven methodology revolve around the term Micro, as in micro-finance and micro-credit. The small, incremental steps allow the poor to exercise entrepreneural skills that will ultimately result to higher standard of living.

Although the target implementation were the women of Bangladesh, this model may also work when mated with the concepts relating to software development.

We have established a project to deal with this concept, but what we learned from this project was it took a lot of activism and money just to get the materials prepared.

We’ll deal with this concept head-on, with the idea on integrating the Grameen Model into the mix.

Recruitment will definitely go on.

Books

Two books read during the weekend turned-out to be pretty good.

The Great Depression

I’ve always wondered about this period of American history when markets collapsed and a period of economic hardships set-in. This book laid out the story how it happened, who were involved and what actions they took to turn the economy around.
