Quiet day. Not much happening. Gonna play outside for a while next. Nice day for it!

mibus: If you want a pop-up to ask for a parameter for a query just put [You! User! Enter foo:] in the criteria row on the QBE-screen for that column.
To be able to get a value from a control on a form, that form has to be opened (does not have to be visible). So another thing you could do is open the form in dialog mode, have the user enter a value and hide the form, all before you run the query. Then the query can get the value from the now hidden form.

Feeling better then yesterday. Started drinking more water. Don't know if it helps, but it won't hurt anyway.

Some php-scribbling yesterday. Splitting up stuff according to functionality and needed authorisation. Much clearer this way. Not yet ready to do the big changes, need to discuss them with the others first. Soon, but not this weekend. I won't be in town.

I can't help but think that these major players 
won't undermine the open-source philosophy by usurping the 
responsibilty of the direction that GNOME takes. This could 
lead to the companies directing the development of GNOME 
not in the best interests of the community, but in there 
own fiscal interests. 

People still don't get it. It only takes one hacker with a different view to start something new. Whatever companies want, if enough people disagree, those people will go their own way and create something that works the way THEY want.

Are 1GHz PCs just penis extensions?
Well, now I know why I never went for an iMac. My personality doesn't agree with them :-)
On the other hand, I've been seriously considering a laptop. Am I kidding myself about just being practical?

Lousy weekend. Bloody headache heading into 3rd day. Hardly got any sleep for last couple of nights. Weather's too bloody hot, stuffy air, all kinds of crap in it, but low on oxygen.
Did some reading and lots of lying on my back with a hurting head. Some days you just wish somebody would put a bullet through your skull (felt like somebody already had, but not good enough).

Build wxPython, cool stuff. Wanna play with that some more. Installed some other stuff to try out.
Done some more php-scribbling. Recursive function to build a hierarchy of categories works, but needs some visual dressing-up. Now need to discuss the datamodel first, before making more changes. Probably gonna be pretty much a total rewrite. That's good because it will get bettter, that's bad cause it means things were done wrong.

12 coin problem: well, in 4 turns is pretty easy.
Haven't got down to three yet.

Anybody out there who already knew the answer?

Work: Lots of stuff I don't want to do and neither does anyone else so it ends up being my job.

House Arteides. Good reading, but it doesn't...well, fit in quite with the Dune series. Stuff like the mess up with Duncan's sister<->mother. Techno stuff brought forward a millenium or two (three?). Somehow the book is just not "realistic" (convincing/credible).

A new system should come in tomorrow to play around with (we call it testing of course).

Weekend come and gone. Done the much needed sanitizing of tjakah (the junkyard also known as home).

Read the data definition guide and the operations guide from the interbase docs. Got interbase up and running. Gives out an error on start-up, but connections are made ok. Probably some access-rights problem. I think I saw the same error with mysql if it coulnd't get hold of a socket.
Can get data out of Interbase in Zope. Next step is to not use Zope, only the needed modules in python scripts.
The php-app is going to phase 2 now. Initial cleaning up is now done. More cleaning later. First check for logical errors and missing functionality. Looks like the data-model will have to be revised. Must not forget to write all that stuff down!

Work seems to be picking up slowly. Hope so.

Slooooow day, might as well stayed in bed. Been reading a lot. Printed out some docs for the weekend. Read a good article about groupware and a horrible interview with someone I won't even bother mentioning.

More php-scribbling yesterday evening, progress is good. Seeing more and more things I don't like the way they are now or things that are just plain wrong. App doesn't check now if an invoice already exists for order, it just makes one regardless. Must change, lots of things like this. Not hard, just more work.

Looked around for a work-flow app for linux. Can't find much so-far. Not too much message-queing stuff either. Did find something for python. So maybe I'll just put something together. Central database, pickle stuff locally to add some fall-back mech. if networking is temp. not avail.
Saw some nice stuff a couple a months ago with workflow and xml. Describing all processes in xml etc. Lot's of fascinating posibilities. Might be fun to try to get something like that together.
