I've had a few good nethack games since the end of May. The last one ended abruptly with a trickery, because I somehow managed to get two nethacks running at once, and quit one. I've got a better game going now, however, and most of the office now has a new addiction...:)

CDs are coming along well, it actually installs something, and you can reboot into it. Soon I hope it will be done...

This diary entry is so late because I haven't had time lately, and I haven't had a weekend, either. I need to really look for a new place to live this weekend, so I'll be having one of them.

Big Blue Room is getting annoying, and causing allergies to appear yet again. I liked it better when you couldn't see the big yellow thing. :)

The moon isn't full, but a good game of nethack was happening. Until I wandered into two trolls in Sokoban, along with a ton of other nasties in the same room. I just wasn't ready to take on something quite that big, as my two weapon skill was only at basic...

Work work work. Building CDs and fixing things that hold up the process. That's what I've been concentrating on.

I also need to find a place to move to, sometime in the not so distant future. That also means cleaning up and packing things. Oh, for hours_in_day++

straylight:~$ pom
The Moon is Full
straylight:~$ nethack

That's where I want to be. But there's this silly CD thing I'm supposed to build. Hrrrrrmmmmm....

Oh well, maybe I'll get to play some and will still be able to get some sleep. Earlier this week had some problems in the sleeping area, and last night getting 8 hours was great!

Ahh, the weekend is here. I didn't get everything I needed done in the week, but I need a break from looking at CD build scripts. So I did another in-place Slackware->Debian upgrade for a system that had been hacked. It is a bad sign when the update daemon used by older kernels enters promiscuous when it starts at boot, and the root directory has a .bash_history file showing someone creating a bindshell...

I said I'd spend some time on Nethack this weekend. I did! I spent most of Saturday playing nethack. While playing nethack, the Debian DAM got to processing my application, so now I am a Debian Developer.

I must do something about this staying up late thing. Going to bed at 4-5AM makes it difficult to get up during the week at the times that one should wake up.

Oh, I really need to get some car insurance tomorrow, before I end up looking at the back of my car some morning and see that it expired a few weeks ago. Or one of those friendly cars with red and blue lights notices.

I keep losing track of the day. Wednesday was particularly bad, in which I really, really, thought it was Tuesday for some reason. Today was a bit easier, but not that much...

A GDM buffer overflow came out this week to bugtraq, in the XDMCP packet parsing. Debian wasn't vulnerable in the default configuration (XDMCP is disabled), but several people do turn it on. I still haven't received the message on my subscription that I can see, but I had a bug filed with the forwarded message, and had an updated package available within a few hours, including a bunch of other fixes as well...

Building CDs is the fun of the week, and I think I might have something useful soon

Nethack!

I got a short bit of nethacking in tonight. I really need to spend some time there this weekend and call relax();

I'm still sick. Got lots of sleep, but I"ll have to repeat that again if it is to help. Stayed off the health drink today, as I didn't go into the big blue room at all. Was able to breathe just fine, so maybe it is the big blue room disagreeing with me.

cleaned up a slackware->potato upgrade. There is something just sick, wrong, and fun about going to a directory like /usr/bin and deleting things all over.

Got some of that code stuff done. I think the network module for SAS is pretty much finished, and with the installation module already finished, that means it is time to move on to setting up a new CD build process before that deadline thingy comes up...

I am going to reserve some time for nethack tomorrow. The moon may be only 15% full, but it's been the time that I've had my best games. I always seem to do better closer to the new moon rather than the full moon, even though the code is written opposite to that. How strange.

sickness continues. it really sucks. tried some health drink, and I can breathe again. I think I'll be continuing on that track... Ears are also feeling better. Now if I can just get the cough and the concentration under control, I'll be in great shape!

sness e-mailed to mention that I could recover the lost nethack game, but I won't gain back the full moon luck, which is why I left it running how I did in the first place. Oh well. Introduced wes to nethack, who has never played before. We must work on this.

I'm just too lazy to make the above links. We really need a person html quick expander. Oh well.

Well, it's been nearly a week since I last posted here. Just been too busy or tired to remember to stop by. The party was great on Friday night, the type you come home on Saturday sometime and then go to sleep!

Have the network installation module finished. This is a good thing.

After having the basic medical paid for me by the company I worked for for the past year or two, I've recently needed to go and get it set up on my own. They bill you via mail, and have no option for direct withdrawl this year. They tell me maybe next year.

Why did I need to go set that up again? I think I'm getting a very bad cold, in that I've had difficulty hearing for the past two days, and was apparently wandering around like a zombie, although I don't remember droning on about needing brains. Maybe I just needed a parent to wait for me.

While wandering like a zombie, I managed to find three dead NIC cards around the network, and remove some 10Mbit hubs. With all of that plugged into the network, it seems to affect everyone and drop connections that should be 9MB/s down to 300KB/s. Everything seems much happier in the network, now.

I just realized that the game of nethack I started on the full moon that I left in a detached screen died in a power outage over the weekend! fsck!

I think I'll go sleep now so I can go visit the doctor somewhat early....

upgraded my laptop to woody from a MS OS. The display panel no longer blanks to a powered off state, so I think I may need to play with the apm options a bit...

more work on modules. not much to tell there really.

car goes in for the routine stuff tomorrow, but i gotta get up early so that it will be available for any part of the day. That dealership really has gone down since being sold...oh welll...

The Penguin Mints arrived! The customs people charge me an additional amount. blech. Two seperate orders may have been cheaper...

Followed lots of sleep with little sleep, and even missed a diary entry yesterday. Spent too much time just playing around with things like xscorch...

Got mon watching the internal network to see if it could help any with some of the weird network points. It hasn't done much but confirm what I know, and let me know about one or two things I didn't, so it has been useful :). Finished most of the network module. Apparently, some other bugs have been fixed in SAT, so it should all work properly, too!

not much new here, really. Too busy to write too much. Saw that sness stopped by again, cool
