Updated my Scope document to include a search feature. rupert you aren't the first to suggest that most obvious feature that iRecipe should have heh he... it reminded me why i put that Search button in the toolbar window. Just to recap, Search will allow you to search for a recipe by category, name, or ingredient.< br>
What's Next:
I'm working on getting a nice object model diagram put together. This is my first "OS" type application. Everything else I've written either had a Database backend or didn't require you to save more than some user preferences. So I'm in some new territory and I hope I make the right design decisions.

Questions:
1. With regards to Archiving/Serializing objects, does anybody know of some good, high level resources? I'm just looking for something online that I can peruse to make sure I'm setting this up right.
2. Does anybody know of any resources for XML parsing within Cocoa?

Zoinks... despite evil network issues at work and even more evil fax machines and freakin stupid windows XP (grr don't *even* get me started!!!) I finally got my UI designs uploaded... check them out here. Grrr... in the end I emailed them to my mac and just uploaded them from home.

Rant:</b>
You'd think the world's most notorious software company would have a reliable internal network. Grrr... it's times like these it takes all of my strength not to tell customers calling in with dysfunctional IIS servers to just SWITCH TO FREAKIN APACHE!!!!

oh and hi nick! i was hoping there might be some other apple student developers lurking in the woodwork...heh heh... and for any of you people reading this that are students and want to write some apple code, check out the ADC Student Developer Program.

Some preliminary design docs have been uploaded and my iRecipe site created. I have some UI's done but I'll have to fax them to myself (free scanner, what can I say) so I can get the images.

tk - hrrmmm i don't know about not needing *any* help... the project is barely off the ground! those folks on the cocoa-dev list may get sick of hearing from me ha ha!!
?? - some wonderfully nice person suggested a cocoa project that was in the works that is a word processor... and wouldn't you know it I didn't respond to the diary entry on time and now i lost that person's name and the project link!! my reply was going to be "thanks for the link... when i get my shizite together i'll happily join" but alas I am too late!

Wow whatta neat site!! So I've just created my account and now being part of this community gives me (even more!!) motivation to make progress on my iRecipe project. Current status of iRecipe... I'm designing the user interfaces. The way I build an application is by first conceptualizing it. I define the functional and non- functional requirements and establish a summary of what need or purpose it is meant to fulfill. The second step is to make a rough draft of an object model so that I can begin to brainstorm at a very high level on what components are needed and how they will interact. The step I am on now is on the data needs and user interaction... or simply put, the User Interface. I piece together something tangible and work on developing a story board with minimal functionality. From this I will derive my use cases and move into the final design stages. The use cases will form my user documentation. Very handy.

iRecipe will be written using Objective-C and the Cocoa Frameworks on and for Mac OS X. Currently I'm learning Objective-C as fast as I can and I'm learning the Cocoa APIs. I hope to complete my User Interface storyboard by February 28th of this year.

My goal is to have the application in its first release by the second week of May... aka the Apple WWDC 2002 conference!
