Ten years without a post to this blog. I think it wasn't
even called a blog last time I used it... A lot of things
have happened in the mean-time. I met a wonderful girl,
married her and last year our daughter was born. So much for
the (as usual) very short personal update.

For almost two years now I am working at Raumfeld, a German company
specialising in high quality multi-room audio systems with
superb sound quality. It is a lot of fun, I like the product
that we are developing and the people working on it.

There is a lot of Open Source software involved at
Raumfeld and we are trying to give back to the
community as much as possible. The driver stack for our
hardware has gone completely upstream in the Linux kernel
tree by now and we are also contributing to the
GUPnP stack
and other libraries.

Have been to Berlin this weekend and spoke to people from convergence, a company
that looks like The place you want to work at (TM).
I'm excited...

raphael, where are your gimp
patches?

Long time no diary...

Found a job in the meantime which is fun to do but keeps
me
from hacking on the real projects like GIMP, GIMP FreeType
and the GNU
FontManager. Most
certainly the job situation will change soon, but I fear it
won't make that situation better. Well, that's life, I
suppose.

Tonight I will leave for this years Summer
Jam Festival and I'm really looking forward to it.
Actually I should be at LinuxTag in
Stuttgart where the new edition of my german Gimp reference
will be presented, but I've always been to the Summer Jam
during the last eight years and I'm trying not to break with
this
tradition. Hopefully the weather will be good, but we'll
have fun anyway.

XPlanet rocks!

The preparation of the GIMP Conference is
coming along nicely. However it turns out to be quite a bit
of work. Respect to mathieu
for having organized GUADEC, which was a
little bit larger event than what we are going to have....

A long weekend but only few time spent hacking. Didn't touch
the The GNU
FontManager
code at all, but GIMP
FreeType makes great progress. Preview is almost
working,
rotation does work and Andy committed code to create bezier
paths from the glyph outlines. Guess we can release a first
snapshot of the code very soon now.

While working on the font selector for
GIMP FreeType, I
decided that other
projects might have a use for a proper font managment system
too and started work on The GNU
FontManager. Let's see how long it takes to layout a
working code base...

Saw those Tux-keys on the web a few days ago and thought I'd
need some for my new keyboard, so I wrote an email ordering
two keys. Since the website said that they used
GIMP to make the keys, I asked if
I
could get them for free and, well, the nice folks from G-N-U sent some today. Whee!

Congrats to Heather and Raph.

Couldn't stop Xach from posting
an
announcement for GIMP
FreeType on the Gimp
News frontpage, so now everone knows about it. One
interesting contributor already showed up who has code to
create bezier paths from glyphs. I'm looking forward to see
this in CVS. In the meantime I have hacked up a preliminary
fontselector which will help me to settle on the design for
the final one. After some discussion on #gimp the plans are
pretty clear now and I hope to have some code ready soon.
