Instead of doing useful things I hacked up a script that creates statistics about the status of the translation of GIMP's UI based on a fresh CVS update. It will run once a day and the output is available here.

Hopefully this will motivate some people to help with the translations.

Have been in bug-fixing mood today. Went through the list of open bugs at http://bugs.gnome.org/db/pa/lgimp.html, closed bugs that have been fixed earlier and fixed a few simple ones. Finally the list is getting smaller instead of growing all the time...

GIMP is coming along nicely. Bugreports keep coming in, but we are busy figthing down the number of open bugs. Still a long way to go until 1.2 can be released.

Worked a lot on i18n lately. Appearantly i18n had introduced lots of stupid bugs since people simply marked strings for translation that were used with sprintf (). This should be fixed now.

I'm looking forward to meet lots of GNOME and GIMP people at the Gnome Users And Developers European Conference which will take in Paris this march. Could be good chance to reuse my rusty french. But then again I fear we'll speak nothing but english there.

Bah! Received "Bad news for Germans (TM)" today from Deutsche Bank Alex Brown (what a farce!):

We are unable to meet all of the necessary regulatory requirements in Germany in order to extend the VA Linux offer there. Therefore, German residents will not be able to purchase shares at the IPO price through the VA Linux Directed Share Program.

Now it happens again! Just when I accepted that I got the RedHat letter and couldn't use it, it happens again! Probably its time to move to a more capitalistic country ... or probably not!?

Had a nice evening hunting down GIMP bugs. Closed a few of those bug reports and there are more that I can't reproduce, so these are probably fixed too. Still a few hard ones to go ...

Hehe, we've seen two GIMP releases in about 24 hours...

Almost finished the job of modifying all plug-ins so they look like all the core dialogs at least with respect to the action area. For GIMP-1.3 we will definitely want to create a standard plug-in dialog creator in libgimp. I18n works again after Mitch's last commit, so thing begin too look good for 1.2 actually.

Lots of work on i18n and plug-ins today. As Yosh always says: "i18n sucks!"...

Tried to track down the problem that makes GIMP use "Datei" for all plug-in menu-entries when I set LANG=de (or whatever language I try...). I did end up more confused then before but at least found a possible security hole that I have hopefully plugged. Now get that CERT advisories out to tell everyone that GIMP versions 1.1.x have to be replaced by the new upcoming 1.1.12 immidiately!

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
