Spring Peepers!

It isn't really spring until I hear the peepers. This is New England, it may still not be spring, but I can dream, can't I?

Tim Bray's excellent ongoing has rekindled my interest in blogging. Even when I don't agree with him, he's worth reading.

So. Verizon Wireless has added this "mobile messenger" feature that lets one send text messages to a Verizon mobile phone. On my clunky old StarTAC phone, this is next to useless, of course. I've received three or four text messages since Verizon started this service. Spam. Of course.

Is it even remotely possible that the ROI on spamming mobile phones is positive?

I discovered at WWW 2002 that someone has actually read these diary entries. Amazing. :-)

I thought a nice "gee the web works" story would round out the evening nicely.

I arrived in San Francisco today only to discover that I'd left my mobile phone charger at home.

To my inexplicable delight the sequence: verizonwireless.com, store locator, mapblast, address, address, address, "oh, that one's walking distance from my hotel" worked exactly like it's supposed to.

A fifteen minute walk and $40 bucks and I have a new charger. Total time about 45 minutes. Sweet. Well, except for the 40 bucks part maybe. It would have been cheaper to remember to bring it with me.

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.

Keep up with the latest Advogato features by reading the Advogato status blog.
