I continue to be astounded by the variety of good food to be found around where I live. I had some good Cuban food today.

It's now possible to display medusa search results in Nautilus. This is really sweet. nullity and rebecka are working on some extra code that will make this work really well. Medusa needs polish in many areas, but it's turning out pretty nicely. I'm now working on model/view separation for the tree view, which will enable it to work much more nicely.

I'm really sick and as a result missing the O'Reilley Open Source conference. I also feel kind of weird about life. Pretty much everything is going well for me but I still feel a constant vague sense of dissatisfaction. Maybe that's just how things are.

Seth and I have almost completed a gnome-vfs search module for medusa. I was a bit annoyed at Darin for flip-flopping on the feasibility of this, but in the end I had to admit it was the right thing to do, and a tasty way to do it. We hacked a fucking amazing amount of code that almost even works, actually, all in one day.

eskil, stephane and I, with special guests mathieu and vicious, are having a housewarming party at 8 PM on Friday, July 28 at 291 Castro St, San Francisco, CA. Anyone who reads this and can make it is welcome to come. :-)

Mathieu is here and staying at me and eskil's and steph's place. I am also supervising him during his Eazel internship. He seems to be getting up to speed pretty well.

rebecka got an Advogato account. I'm waiting for hell to freeze over and chickens to fall from the sky now. :-)

I'm almost done with the search API, at that point Rebecca and I should be able to work on integrating the search stuff into Nautilus properly. It will be way cool once it works.

I've also been thinking about where to take the tree view from here.

I went to an interesting party on Friday, which reinforced my impression that when smokers are exiled to outside, the real party is outside.

On Sunday, I went out to Killowatt, yet another fairly interesting bar in my neighborhood, w/ Steph and Eskil and two of our neighbors. I think we will invite them to our housewarming once we actually plan it.

I rented a U-Haul and Steph, Eskil and I moved most of the shit from our old place to the new place. It was really tiring. Afterwards we ate a huge amount of food at the nearby Bagdad Cafe; it's great to live in a place where there are 3 24-hour diners within easy walking distance.

Tonight I think we might go to Lucky 13, a cool-looking bar near our house.

The tree view now has icons. Ten lines of code change! Gotta do some Medusa stuff before Rebecca skins me alive, though.

I saw Titan AE last night with Eskil and Michael. It was cheesy, yet totally awesome. The best space opera I have seen in a while, and the animation was cool too, even if the 3D stuff was a bit over-used.

I am slowly going insane, but I feel so happy despite that. Life is weird.

Tonight I might go drinking with eskil, pepper, and maybe other folks from Eazel. Or I might go clubbing and try to meet up with Katy. Or maybe both. Who knows.

Back to the grindstone...

I finally got a first reasonable cut of the tree view in. Now to work on the other 40 hours of stuff I'm supposed to have done by the 5th...

Friday evening I went to Tijuana with Ettore, George and George's brother Martin. Tijuana appears deisgn specifically to relieve tourists of their sobriety and their money as fast as humanly possible. The only really silly thing I did was spend too much money on a Mexican wrestler mask, but it made Steph pretty happy.

On Saturday I got back and went to the MDFMK show at the Fillmore. They kicked ass, and were actually much better live than on the album. They also played some new songs, and I can't wait for the next album to come out. For the second encore they played "Anarchy".

Sunday morning, I went to the Pride Parade with Rebecca. It was cool, there were many entertaning and inspiring sights. Unfortunately, I got a nasty sunburn in the process.

Sunday evening, Steph, Eskil, Rebecca and I went to see Chicken Run, which, like previous Aardman Animation features, was incredible.

I feel like I should become a hermit now so I can get some work done.

I'm so glad to have a kitchen where I feel happy cooking now! Last night I made linguica sausage in a mushroom/merlot sauce with garlic and shallots, and slow-fried potatoes with onion and black pepper. I think the meal was approved by all. The night before last, Eskil made some weird Danish thing with ground beef, peppers and onions, and I think tonight Steph's going to make something (in addition to having baked chocolate chip cookies the last two nights). The amazing thing is how cheap it all is! The ingredients for the food I made were less than $20 total, including the wine, and there was a lot left over of many of them.

work environment

We are finally rid of the sweatshop here at Eazel. Unfortunately, the new office setup is full of windows in the cubicle walls, which is really distracting. The way they are set up, you can see people all the way across the room when you are sitting at your workstation. However, people have already ordered posters to cover the damn things.
