Some stray thoughts I have been toying with for a couple of years kind of crystallized last night. Probably in response to reports that Taliban forces are burning the food drops from the U.S. military rather than risk an Afghanistan citizen trying them out on himself prior to feeding them to his starving kids.

Some of the knee jerk liberal responses found here at advogato that any or all military response at any level to any provocation whatsoever including mass murder is inappropriate is really eye opening. Obviously oversight of police functions and military support of the same are too important to be left to self serving liberals mindlessly spouting dogma while civilians are being subjected to murder, torture, genocide, etc. world wide and within the USA.

While I tend to the liberal end of the domestic U.S. spectrum on many issues I wish to disassociate myself from the mindless idiots that the conservative idiots like to point out to make us pragmatic liberals and conservatives alike in the middle look bad to non politically inclined voters. To help reinforce this I have provided some ideas below regarding how I think U.S. military forces pursuing a reduction in terrorism worldwide could cooperate with local citizens, police and military forces to begin reducing the opportunity for terrorists in remote global regions that currently do not have easy access to the educational and informational benefits of dense civilizations and which have trouble accessing the global economy for local benefit. Clearly such a program would require widespread and transparent oversight to avoid the abuses that crept into military training programs created to influence events in South and Central America as part of the U.S. "war on drugs". This is easily and cheaply accomplished via the internet.

Without further ado, the draft outline of the idea:

Draft Outline of a Home Defense Operations Proposal

Assumptions:

1.) To win the war on Terrorism it is necessary to pre-emptively eliminate the formation of new terrorists.

2.) The U.S.G. wishes to win ...... if we are not careful this "war" being conducted through the application of police powers and expansion of the ability of the military and police to work together both domestically and abroad could be used to consolidate power into the executive branch. As evidence of this consider President Bush's recent decision to threaten Congresses access to information gathered by the executive branch critical to policy making as well as military operations rather that instructing the Justice Department that "leakers" be proscecuted to the full extent possible for treasonous dereliction of duty and placed in jail as an example to other highly placed elected officials and administrators that they are not above the law.

3.) The Office of Home Defense will have broad coordination ability and access to highly placed adminstrators in various U.S.G. agencies sufficient to give innovative plans requiring excellent interagency cooperation and coordination to deliver benefits a fair hearing and evaluation by the experts necessary to modify it appropriately to work in the field. This is essential because if a sweeping plan such as this is to work in the field, it must be "owned" and operated by the field agents and agencies who are ultimately charged with putting it into effect.

Proposal: Approach a diverse set of American communities about getting the design and implementation Of a solar powered internet school station and the required starting open/free software suite completed and Start fielding these school stations to remote communities, houses, farmsteads, forrest service outposts, etc. within the U.S. and abroad to create the following benefits:

1.) More complete eyeball monitoring of critical areas at risk to terrorist activities such as sabotage or infiltration.

2.) Near instantaneous email or voicemail access to appropriate reporting points at various U.S.G. agencies and interested citizenry and press regarding suspicious activities.

3.) Local after school access to the internet for business purposes useful to expanding local economic activities and prosperity, local primary school access to software and other online materials useful in conducting classes or self study activities at all levels of the educational process, in remote work locations access for adults to the internet sufficient to allow ongoing adult education as well as continued participation in varied civic responsibilities such as electioneering, voting, tutoring, coaching, design work, team coordination, etc.

Package Requirements:

1.) Inexpensive powerful microprocessor configuration capable of running a diverse set of open/free software as well as commercial packages as the local economy becomes capable or willing to support the licensing fees.

2. Solar panel, power supply and battery or capacitor setup capable of supporting the continous operation of the system in a variety of climates. Engineering compromise may be required here if available battery/capacitor/power storage systems are deemed too expensive for cost effective implementation at the single station level.

3. Internet satellite access via dish. Unnecessary in areas where phone dialup can be established but may still be desirable considering the monitoring and reporting function on terrorist activities. Much harder to disable ten or twenty distributed communications points than a central phone switch if nefarious activities are planned in an area and it is desired to delay notification of the proper response authorities.

4.) Easy startup interface such that an uneducated but average intelligence adult or child can be taught in a few days how to powerup the system and get to the initial menu structures for the critical functions required to learn or self educate in how to run the system effectively to self educate and/or report suspicious activities.

5.) Open/Free software that is easy to install and maintain and which supports various self educational activities. Note that this software is required to optimize use of computers in domestic USA school systems so some funding may be available from the myriad of educational programs run by the U.S. federal government. A high return could be documented for software that successfully attracts children's interest and allows U.S. teachers to effectively teach more children while managing the educational environment effectively and safely and providing greater individual attention when it is desirable or necessary.

Consider the above list in light of current advertisements running on television: Dell ..... $899 P4, 256MB, 20GB, 17"or 15" modern multimedia PC system. IBM $1400 Very similar to above with some added or different features. Gateway ..... been a month or two since I have seen theirs, they must be preparing to respond to above.

Solar panels .... Expensive but doable. Further, a steady increasing market is required to encourage additional startup competitors essential to driving the prices downward faster than they have receded in the past. This is essential to the war on terrorism because over dependence on one energy source (oil) corrupts not only middle eastern countries and multi national oil companies, it also helps them corrupt the U.S. Government. The single largest force for good or evil on the planet as they control the U.S. economy indirectly and all federal U.S. tax revenue and policy directly. IMHO Until alternatives exist to large special interests that can threaten the entire U.S. economy it will be difficult to simplify the domestic U.S. political environment sufficiently that the U.S. voters feel they comprehend and can act on a complete set of available information that has been publicly debated when electing officials to set and implement public policy. Voters do not wish to waste their time on public debate when private agendas have already been bought and paid for via bribes and influence peddling with all likely candidates and parties.

Satellite Dish Internet access. This is a proven capability. It can be delivered by the NSA or military systems already in existence to support U.S. military worldwide or contracted to a variety of private contractors undoubtedly eager to make a profit and/or expand their global internet satellite networks. A Good GSA negotiator should be able to get some decent rates considering that the U.S.G. already has these Capabilities inhouse. I would recommend using at least 3 suppliers to avoid handing some multinational behometh a new monopoly. I realize that this is a departure from U.S.G. policy in the immediate past but if we are to get past economic terrorists wearing ties and enhancing their CEO power brokerage via various interlocking boards of directors and investors it is necessary that the U.S.G. start spreading the business around a little bit. Nine suppliers would be even better but might be a bit unwieldly to work with initially. Obviously if we go initially with NSA or inhouse milsats it will be necessary to reconfigure such that there is a copper disconnect between operational military assets and the new fledgling educational and terrorist monitoring and reporting net.

Software - Software can quickly become the most expensive component of a functional efficacious computer system or net. Fortunately a large community of dedicated developers has formed to provide alternatives to large software monopolies who have attempted to dictate the direction and environments of computing for their exclusive benefit. Much of the software required for the above projects/systems is already in existence in an open source form which can be modified or tailored to fit and published back to the public at no expense to the government or organization that undertakes the above. Further, shown a serious project backed by the U.S.G. intended to enhance local economies and educational opportunities worldwide in even the remotist areas it is possible that many open/free developers would choose to assist at least to the extent of helping tailor a version of their product appropriately for such an application. Certainly developers familiar with the source code of selected suites of software tools could be hired rather quickly over the internet .... Many of these developers are contract workers and are periodically available as their current tasks and projects are completed.

Pedagogical resources ..... Considering the number of teachers, professors, and educational institutions in the U.S. which are funded by all levels of U.S. governments and taxes and the responsibility they bear every day when acting as parental loco (sorry got that wrong ... a latin term meaning standing in for the actual parents locally ... babysitter in charge) there should be no trouble attracting educational resources to this project if the office of home defense points out that it can be used domestically to help secure borders, fill in critical gaps in monitoring critical vulnerable areas (remote adult schooling in a ranchhouse or bunkhouse with telescopic overview of a dam upstream from a traditional schoolhouse makes obvious improvements in the security of the dam and the kids in the schoolhouse ..... even if a dam is blown a warning 30 minutes prior to downstream sighting of excess water may allow timely evacuation of the schoolhouse and town ...... which can then be rebuilt at our leisure with no loss of life) and increase the efficacy with which our dollars spent on education are used to deliver actual education vs. babysitting.

Deployment

I would propose that small military squads practice air dropping with the systems into various coordinated Locations in the U.S. with the mission of setting them up, providing initial training, doing a routine recon of the surrounding area and threat/risk assessment, and then hiking out to a helicopter pickup point. I would also recommend that local citizenry or militia be invited to participate in parts (not all, obviously fat civilians cannot keep up with crack military teams through their more rigorous tasks) of these missions to serve a variety of purposes simultneously:

1.) Acquaint the locals with the raw capabilities of the U.S.G. military.

2.) Emphasize to the locals the importances of these education/monitoring systems.

3.) Provide a joint planning and design session with the U.S.G. military experts and the local citizenry regarding the local vulnerabilities to terrorism in general and specifically the vulnerability of the new internet communications site/economic center/educational center with a view towards how to best protect it and/or leverage off of its prescence. For example: I would recommend that Standard Operating Procedure be get a message out if it appears to be under threat of attack with a scheduled callback every few minutes. Then when a real attack materializes the staff can bug out. If the terrorists are dumb enough to pause to destroy the internet access site then the U.S. attack helicopters and/or paratroopers should be able to track and interdict them. Scratch one terrorist or squad in exchange for replacing a cheap internet access point. VERY COST EFFECTIVE! And profitable for U.S. companies as well .... Easy to sell to a corrupt Congress seeking to maximize war profits.

Obviously the U.S. military response must be planned effectively to achieve the above with minimal or no casualties or the cost/benefit tradeoff analysis is more complicated. I shall leave detailed analysis of this feasiblity to expert military planners unless they come seeking wacky or offbeat input as grist for their mills. 4.) Involves the local population in the fight against terrorism locally and provides a quick military response capability to reduce terrorist ability to terrorise in previously unexposed territory. This will limit the ability of terrorists to relocate as they come under attack in specific geographical areas.

5.) Provides a return on expensive realistic military training for U.S. troops soon to go into harm's way.

6.) Builds networks of trust and local economies access to the global economy and world class military and police protection and reduces the tendency of local strong men to become terrorists as they get used to having their own way in the local pond. Notice this will also start to reduce the tendency towards economic terrorism within localized regions of the U.S. Also reduce the tendency of local governmental structures and police forces to get too big for their britches since they will know that feedback information loops are tied into other U.S. regions and the U.S. federal agencies charged with defense of civil liberties and reduction of terrorism and criminal behavior.

P.S. Please excuse the erratic formatting of the bullet lists. The version of Word that I am using is convinced that it is smarter than I am regarding where I wish numbered lists placed. Good enough for a draft idea in my not so humble opinion but we may wish to use some less buggy open source software for our final publishing of final operations plans. P.S.2 I have checked with our local hospital several times regarding emulating the prototype project in Maryland of coordinating local daily health stats to establish a baseline and to look for potential biological or chemical attacks early enough to respond effectively. So far they have no idea what I am talking about and our conversations have been cut short prior to me being able to clarify it sufficiently that they see an opportunity to proactively help protect our community while enhancing delivery of their primary care services. I will attempt effective communications again but it may be helpful if some national news nets Could be convinced to walk through some of the benefits that accrue from such a program to research efforts and national health planning as well as the local improvements in health care delivery that become available when the local medical staff is somewhat familiar with local trends and problem sets.

Congratulations on convincing the Maryland hospitals to begin manual prototyping so that early information regarding what a working system will look like can be provided to systems analysts and/or software engineers charged with the responsibility of eventually automating such a system for rapid Dissemination of information nationally to diverse interests that can benefit such as FDA, CDC, pharmaceutical companies involved with initial regional drug releases, research institutes, etc. etc. Having attempted something similar locally I have a solid understanding of what an achievement that is, paticularly being accomplished prior to even being sworn in. Be sure to pat that medical staff on the back they are making you look good, an essential support function for any political office .... So I perceive it anyway.

P.S.2 I failed to include some thoughts on automated video monitoring and alerting when the systems are not in use manually for education or economic purposes ... say after midnight when local businessman, farmers and parents are in bed preparing for the next day. Perhaps someone with some actual experience with video processing could elucidate some of the types of things that could be done with currently available algorythms and open/free software and forward it to Tom Ridge and/or myself so that if this idea is pickup up by a team of professionals or volunteers they start with as complete an outline of the feasible as possible.

rasmus with rhetorical question Obvious answer. I read them at least once, when I write them. Feel free to cc them to carnivore or Tom Ridge c/o the white house with appropriate improvements or commentary or if you feel the information is too sensitive to be broadcast to fat, dumb, U.S. citizens who know terrorist attacks will be somewhere safely elsewhere. Perhaps Ashcroft can ask U.S. Congress to shutdown the internet to equalize the probabilities of victory between the terrorist forces of ignorance and religious extremism and a secular U.S. Military who may not even require reading much less comprehension of the U.S. Constitution prior to taking an oath of service. They only follow orders when operating outside of the U.S.A. It is illegal for them to operate inside the U.S.A. Ipso Facto or QED or something: They only follow orders. Good thing we never signed any war criminal paperwork. So where lies the responsibility to see that only legal orders are given? What review process is in place to routinely verify that all operations are planned in an orderly legal manner even though execution might get a bit creatively chaotic via inspiration that is typically emergent in the heat of the fog of war from well trained professionals. It is precisely the legality of the execution in the field we are concerned with because in modern warfare there are witnesses due to the recent improvements in minimizing collateral damage. Good strategy leaves these witnesses with a solid understanding that peaceful solid citizens and neighbors need not fear the U.S. Military when it is pursuing justice.

Perhaps the VFW should reread it once in a while too before lobbying for infinite retirement pay and medical care for military retirees while restricting the supply of civilian doctors and limiting U.S. civilian medical care to assistance with prolonged dying and burial that is suspiciously congruent with patient's ability to pay.

Field Exercises:

Built a tool box out of the scrap heap behind the middle school. Several neighbors appeared in the vicinity to verify I approached the middle school no further. Our kids will survive even if terrorists are dumb enough to target rural America.

Scanned the garbage can outside the H.S. for suspicious materials. Recovered a pc power supply that made an excellent simulated bomb and also has several capacitors that I need to help a buddy get a machine tool working. Police had me under observation while I did so ... did not follow so I suspect he radioed to either the dairy uproad or the horse ranchers. Not acquainted with them yet so I do not know who has telescope to watch Easten H.S. access. Dropped tool bag and saw at a suspicious location (while carried PS simulated bomb uptown to big J) so that the police can cross check observer skills if they have multiple daytime oversight of critical space between the H.S. and M.S. Have to review RC circuit design and do some calculations before we start soldiering .... got to get or build a soldiering iron too. PS and some surplus copper (for still) delivered to big J at his library internet post for transport to his factory outlet.

Found two small orchards (2 and 3 trees inversely respectively) (one walnut, one apple) that I can propose to harvest for the owners for half the produce. Give me some materials to practice canning, tanning and perhaps methane or alcohol production with.

Hauled home a 2x6 (old football bleachers from the high school .... interesting that it appeared in the middle school scrap heap approximately 1 mile away as the truck drives (half as the students and noaccounts such as myself meander). A sign from God no doubt ... he wanted me to build a tool box.

Mentally inventoried dadio's toolbox ...... a great deal of resourcefulness and varied skills are apparently required to fight fires. I wonder if this is true for civilians or hot shots or just retired military? Considering dadio's ties to USAF Air Training Command it is possible the training program I stumbled into is nationwide, perhaps some black money was used to set it up. Would not take much ... it seems to be fairly self financing after the student gets rolling.

Approached mom about a reasonable greenhouse again. She is stalling and does not actually want to grow vegetable or fruit tree starts this winter. She steadfastly refuses to purchase some plastic drums for the lower walls to provide thermal mass and insulation. I do not know how to build a passive greenhouse without thermal mass so we are deadlocked and going nowhere fast on this excercise. Gives her something to bitch about every day for the last week. Today as a result of our shouting match she threatened to call Dad several times. Reminds me of life during the Vietnam War. Maybe she will get over it and we can finish up here soon. I am getting itchy to get out and get a real job or start doing real business again as my creditors are getting pretty militant. They are pretty much toothless tigers too, I think they do not want to chance any legal precedents while the American people are in a mood to solve some problems, any problem that gets in their path. Besides, the best they can do as long as I am willing to free load on relatives and friends is force me into bankruptcy .... the worst they can do is get sufficicient bad PR that U.S. voters insist on rationalizing their systems for them to avoid domestic "terrorist" attacks.

I may be building arches out of the plum tree we cut down (it was too big and starting to break up the house foundation) last week. Seems a bit freudian or odyssean or something. I have the feeling that Dad should be helping her build these arches she insists must be built. Somebody really should point out to the pedantists who are in charge of brainwashing people with these training programs that their purpose is to assist people with self education ..... not to put grooves in people's gray matter or more precisely thought patterns like old scratched up records. Apparently my maternal grandfather beat a lot of shit into my mother and my uncles and they have had a hard time learning to think around the pain. Mom flat refuses to address some things directly and avoids these issues even indirectly to the best of her ability. Since we all treat it as her privelege (except Dad who ignores anyone who will not interact on his terms) she seems to have concluded it is her privelege. She gets quite upset when I insist on handling my own financial affairs and has even taken to lying about what mail has come if she and I disagree on whether I will maintain an insurance policy or not.

Civil Defense

I did some more field survey work. Our local water systems are not as advanced as I presumed they might be from the advanced holding ponds and marsh work that has been done piecemeal over the last few years. Even if all the old systems were left in place there are still cross connects missing that would be required to effectively manage the water flows to clean up fast after a chemical or biological attack. Depending on the size of the contaminants released we might wish to divert the effluent into the neighborhood holding ponds, into the wetlands march constructed to help rehabilitate the watershed or directly into the Coquille River for rapid flushing to the ocean. I am leery of the ocean dump because once it hits the ocean humanities ability to amelieorate (reduce the impact?) the effects are quite limited. With the contaminants contained in one more concentrated superfund site substantial treatment or relocation to a treatment site (maybe the local sewage treatment plant while locals are requested to shit in the woods for a few days?) for chemical or biological remediation processing and then release or transport to a long term storage site.

Some further research that is required: Can useful concentrations of chlorinated or flourinated (or other chemical agents) water be delivered through the drinking water system to facilitate rapid city wide wash down and decontamination without requiring replacement of the city water system?

Could some minor modifications to existing water system give us a redundant water system where one set of lines is potable and a parallel system be available for fire fighting and/or chemical washdown procedures.

Obviously car washes can be equipped to washdown vehicles. IIRC major casualties were projected in Germany from WWIII Chemical attacks for months or even years after a chemical attack. This because the agents cling to all surfaces until pressure washed off or chemically neutralized or both.

I approached some locals about setting up a bottle recycling program for out of state cans and bottles to help with the local library and swimming pool expansion. The person apparently in charge (librarian's pick anyway) took one listen and attempted to divert me into setting the program up to fund local seniors hot meals. I will probably put this on hold for a while. I am a bit saturated with stubborn seniors at the moment. I investigated the senior's hot meals program last year as a possible place to send local street people or out of work indigents or transients for a hot meal. I was informed the federal paperwork made this impossible. Bullshit because: 1.) Wavers can be generated and even a federal burearcrat can recognize a good idea if you take sufficient interested parties with you over a period of months to choke them on it while others are chewing on his bosses ankles, 2.) The local yokals follow federal regulations exactly when it suits them ... I know, I was raised around from middle school on with a year off in Florida to learn some real math.

Maybe seniors need a hot meal once in a while and the socialization opportunity probably helps keep them alive. Some of the locals my age also need a hot meal once in while. I discussed the local job situation with my Dad once. I asked him if it really was as tough in the old days as it has been for two decades here. After some thought he admitted that it was not. He said when he was my age you could get drunk on a friday or saturday and punch out your boss in a bar and if you were on the street with your work boots on monday a crummy would stop and ask if you were looking for a job. Compare this with today's maximum security prisons after 3 altercations or fisticuffs (if you survive the arresting officers fears that you may be on meth) and flat refusal of employers to hire anyone without license or certification from someone somewhere or somehow (ok if buy diploma for $20 bucks out of magazine but a diploma or cert you must have).

So what makes these old citizens (many of whom are receiving social security, gov retirements, etc. paying much more than was ever put in by strict accounting) so much more worthy than my compatriots? They ran the local economy into the ground. My compatriots either did not abandon the area or (like me) were dumb enough to return rather than sticking with safe cubicle slots in crowded metro regions at high pay.

Anyway, it does not matter. I am not planning on running the program merely outlining it for the local kiwannas and key club and if they are interested helping them get it set up on an ongoing "profitable" basis. They will undoubtedly have their own worthy cause to fund ..... kiwannas auxillary or key club snowmobile trip or something else worthy in their view. Since they will be running it if it materializes obviously their causes are the worthiest of them all. So I can toss my ideas and the community building manager's ideas out and listen while interested parties discuss how to divert the funds we propose to generate via volunteer labor and craftiness to their own pet projects. I just want to see the damn litter on the highway picked up while reducing these companies who insist on only a single state or two refund value ill gotten gains. How the hell the late great state of oregon allows these bottles to bypass our bottle deposit law which was enacted precisely to avoid the litter problem we now have is beyond me. Maybe a more effective course of action would be to go read up on hold to file a class action lawsuit and sue the bottling companies directly for compensation on behalf of Oregon taxpayers who pay people to pick this litter up so the state looks nice for residents and tourists. I shall have to think about this a bit more before taking any precipitious action, no doubt a legislator or judge will be happy to point out that this is a poor time for divisiveness (insisting on constitutional rights) when we should be protecting all american bottlers and airlines profit margins and zipping tax breaks through for .... I will insert a derisive comment here when I hear enough detail to verify President Bush's proposed tax cuts benefit traditional Republican fat cats. Who knows? Maybe he has determined that direct economic stimulus is best served by giving the working poor and middle class a tax break which can be spent immediately getting ready. I doubt somehow that saving Bill Gates a few more million this year is going to translate directly into distributed potable water stored appropriately in multiple households.

Incidentally, to remotely based locals planning on using Coquille as a bug out target, there are plenty of camp sites but be aware that massive relocation of blackberry hedges, paths, cow trails, etc. has been underway all summer. Before planning on using a childhood path write home and ask a buddy or mobile relative to combat chatter (cc) the changes for you or you may find yourself having to bull through in an emergency to the severe detriment of hidal integrity. Even worse, some tidal zones have changed in the marshes as much earth moving was done up and down the valley to re-establish marshes and water flow control zones. There is some quick sand on some previously available routes, can be quite unnerving if carrying a lot of equipment.

This concludes tonight's opinion log. Potentially a lot of PLC programming involved with complex water systems. Requirements definition and analysis is legitimate software engineering even if hard core code commanders do not care for it much. So my guru supervisors and subordinates taught me when I was gainfully employed long ago in townships far from the tree age. Ever notice how a prescription bearing AMA certified specialist and some hackers have much in common? Both like to do lobotomies on valuable systems with little planning or preparation and see if it works ...... little ghoulish humour there. It is soon to be Halloween after all. I acknowledge that software is a bit different, it is possible to reload and reset a computer. Scrambled human beings are a bit more difficult to work with, better to love them well before they get all screwed up instead of attempting it afterwards.

vicious While I find I tend to agree with many of vicious's pacifistic tendencies I think mutual self defense of neighbors by neighbors is justifiable if reasonable efforts to use minimal force are made. However, I will not weep for anyone stupid enough to attack a well defended humanitarian relief convoy that insists on delivering food, blankets, hand tools, water, medicines, etc. to refugee columns directly instead of handing them to government thugs for use in consolidating their rapidly fraying power base. I hope my neighbors would deliver my family and friends clean water and food if they had a surplus while we were starving. Southern Oregon coast is a rural area: lots of guns, shoestrings, slingshots, water pistols, farmers, small businessmen, craftsman, citizens and neighborly people as well as highly competent government personnel and utility and emergency services. A few homicidal maniacs spouting conflicting religious dogma without any internal consistency would not slow them down much. That is what we have mental wards and maximum security prisons for .... to protect homicidal maniacs from themselves and vigilantes. This also allows civilization to meet the social mandate of "Thou shalt not kill." so common to most successful human societies without being reduced to the lowest common denominator of rapists, poiseners, money lenders and/or feudal barons and slaveholders. It is unfortunate that so many criminal choose to get shot resisting arrest that it starts to corrupt the police forces entrusted with bringing them back alive if possible. We probably need to setup better quality feedback loops and be sure combat personnel are rotated out of the front lines after reasonable tours of duty to avoid combat fatigue related problems from spreading to our wider civilian communities.

Linux Certification I really need to check into this ...... it would provide something useful and interesting to do when the local training programs insist that all t's and i's must be dotted and crossed while finishing other peoples projects for them. It would also help me get more familiar with linux and open source in general, perhaps gainful employment other that slinging pizzas would then become possible in the local area .... or I could relocate since I do not seem to be making much visible progress refurbishing Mom's house for Dad. Mom generally knows in excruciating detail how she wants a job done and is quite diligent about interrupting every project I have in progress, if she can spot them, until I come keep her company by screwing things up as she specifies. Then she is pissed because I did what she told me to instead of accomplishing an approximation of the results I think she was attempting to describe. Really I think she missed her calling ..... she could have been an awesome executive or government manager making significant contributions to the consumption of the fruits of the American economy while growing the national debt.

I suppose since she spent her life taking care of her parents she feels entitled to be taken care of for a while. This is a difficult need to fulfill since she refuses to allow anyone a peaceful moment of doing things their own way and refuses to negotiate any standard procedures acceptable to her and I. Her way or the highway but she gets hysterical anytime I get ready to leave .... a licensed set of AMA quacks told her I am having mental problems and that these are typically irrecoverable. Basically I should be paying the U.S. pharmaceutical industry $600/month for chemical lobotomy and waiting peacefully to die when my families economic resources are completely depleted and no longer capable of supporting my bio engineered frailties and drug dependencies ...... on second thought perhaps we should restrict the humanitarian aid to the Afghani people to just food and water. Nymia, learning assyrian Wow! Ambitious. I am still trying to learn the basics of applied engineering in a regulated (by idiots and wallets) economy. Good backup study idea .... starting to appear that engineering is heavily selected against in the U.S.A. Too much investment in existing infrastructure and too much emotional attachment to seniority, status, broken fashion procedures, and easy ways of all kinds. Wierd that my mom thinks depriving me of a working garbage disposal and dishwater (which I could fix if she chose to allow it) will teach me integrity and/or ingenuity. I think she must have associated with Job's daughters, Masons, and Granddad a bit too much. I mean ... how much can you really learn from solving the same problem manually a few thousand times? It seems to neglect major portions of the solution space and gets rather monotenous after a while. It does not even teach patience. Patience is doing what it takes to accomplish an objective .... not strewing myriads of fake obstacles that fail to simulate the real world into the path of a student attempting to study the universe or human society for them to repeatedly realize abject failure in their personal objectives or the teacher's mandated objectives.

Grrrrrgh! Maybe it is time for self selected combat engineers and/or space pioneers to say fuck the software industry, no more waiting for upgrades, tools, or useable CAD standards. Do the drawings manually and scan them, hard drive space is cheaply and internet bandwidth is adequate. 1.) The U.S. is not going to put up with domestic attacks or the defensive measures necessary to protect civilians from determined foes. Much easier to obliterate erring opponents and then use existing assets to make sure future opponents are not allowed to survive to the level of competency apparently in service of Bin Laden and Arabic thug governments empowered by the U.S. government and U.S. influenced multinational oil conglomerates.

2.) U.S. humanitarian aid in the future will be delivered to individuals in need and not to thug or non-profit organizations wishing to consolidate their power or stock option portfolios. The U.S. military is capable of defending field kitchens and field hospitals and refugees who store their received supplies as fat are hard to rob with friendly military forces nearby and seeing eyes in the sky. It will be necessary to remove some of the black program secrecy bullshit from the U.S. intelligence and defense establishments but this means of getting around the Freedom of Information Act and the responsibility to inform and educate the U.S. voting citizenry as regards to actions taken in their name via authority delegated from them is long overdue for termination. It makes a mockery of the constitution and has been a corrupting influence in American society as well as with our "allies" via secret deals and information sharing for too long.

It might be interesting to review the history of privately raised companies of Americans who chose to fight for liberty and justice in foreign wars. The Alamo is not the only instance nor is it unusual other than the spectacle of frontiersmen allowing themselves to get pinned down in a stationary fort by a vastly superior army. This is not a mistake that I think many modernly U.S.G trained U.S. citizens will make should they choose to take a more active personal role in implementing their personal policies vs. delegating it the U.S. Government.

Civil Defense or Emergency Response Planning

One of the greatest strengths of the local civil defense plan is the authorities have refused to publish a central plan. That they have plans to attempt to care for irresponsible deliquents and juveniles who are not properly prepared to care for themselves in the event of various forms of attack becomes very obvious with just a little field survey work.

Further, resources have and are being put in place that would allow the Coquille Valley and/or Coos County to rapidly set up and host tens of thousands if not hundreds of refugees. I suspect some Federal resources have been made discreetly available over the past few decades or years to facilitate this but I could very mistaken. Much of the work has been done in the course of the normal economy and only now are necessary augmentations for maximum efficacy being added. Food and sewage processing would be the long term limiting factor on the capacity but we have rail links into Coos Bay, barge access, and many trucks and CDL drivers locally so food and water transport should not be a problem as long as diesal, food is available somewhere in USA to ship to refugee camps.

For example:

Showers and incinerators have been added to many of the local parks managed by all levels of government.

Car washes seem to be getting additional filtering and closed loop water recycling systems. First stage wash of toxic chemicals and/or biologicals for mission critical vehicles such as RVs, private autos, national guard convoys, small planes, etc.?

Modern dishwashers are all equipped with heavy duty steam sterilization. Is the detergent even necessary? Perhaps if hand wash or rinse macroscopic food and grease off of the plate the remainder is sterilized and thus plate safe to eat from?

Local business practices encourage well equipped and packed contractor vans and trucks of all kinds. A craftsperson's family driving a contractor vehicle, an RV, miscellanous teen vehicles all packed appropriately is a mobile neighborhood if even rudimentary camping skills are available that can build its own refugee camp or new neighborhood while working for revenue at whatever needs done in the new locale for whoever has cash or trade goods.

Excellent communications, firepower, medical equipment, etc. is built into the fleets and individual vehicles of all local police and emergency vehicles.

Detailed contractor work has been done and is continuing on electrical, data, water, etc. that adds robustness, security and deviousness to local utilities. Incidentally it also provides decent paying jobs for the additional personnel necessary to maintain the more complex systems. These have also been addressing a wide range of concerns such as environmental protection as well as civil defense. For example: We have older water mains and newer water mains. Which system are the fire hydrants hooked into and where are the cross connects? Are there telemetered instrumentation packages watching for tampering? Do neighborhoods have reliable watch standers who know the local utility men that are prepared to take prompt and persistent action in tracking down the authorization or appropriateness of people wandering around the streets and utilities? Neighborhood civil patrols and watch relays are springing up all around this valley. These are formal systems which augment but do not replace the old grapevines. The systems appear to have generational drift of about every 10-15 years..... (3 4-year groups in the high schools?) Individuals join whichever nets or webs they choose so there is a lot of diverse and robust overlap between the nets. Once the nets trust local authorities have been cleaned up and are being provided adequate citizen oversight to maintain public integrity the effectiveness of local authorities in dealing with serious as well as trivial problems in proactive fashion will be greatly enhanced.

So, my new task is to create a detailed emergency response plan for myself and then begin exchanging ideas and information with other citizens and organizations as appropriate so we can all use the best ideas available tailored to the local environment as per our best judgement in an emergency. Communication of known information will be essential so that citizens excercising their own judgement can do so in the light of the best information.

This by it nature must be public so I should go down to the fire department or county and request a copy of the local emergency communications plan. It will be critical to allowing citizens to effectively implement their best response it a given emergency.

Basically the local citzenry looks pretty ready to dig in or bug out as necessary. Preparations are ongoing but we have a resource rich environment locally so the limiting factor is how fast we can education our less qualified or informed citizenry. This is turn depends on how motivated they are and interested in survival. We have a lot of people locally who have been denied decent economic opportunity, social justice, and a loving family environment for so long that they are fairly stubborn about embracing life sufficiently to rapidly learn the new skills so essential for our society to at last realize the dreams of our nations founders as embodied in our constitution and culture. Oddly enough this may be a larger problem in segments of society who feel successful than in the traditionally victimized social strata. Owners who have been "free" to mismanage their assets under protection of the U.S.G. do not seem to fear their "neighbors" or family or friends that they have been abusing. People are waking up and it is a large mistake to get in the way of parents attempting to protect, raise, feed and/or educate their young. Even single people often have friends, lovers, nieces and nephews, etc. If you refuse to allow other fair opportunity to prosper do not be surprise when you get blindsided. It is not necessary to kill or violently restrain someone to make their lives miserable. Often it is merely necessary to apply a little compassionate understanding of their lot in life and observe their personal dilemmas, once the blind spots and prejudices have been spotted situations can be engineered that allow desired consequences.

Suicidal terrorists are created by information hiding and filtering. Elements of U.S.G. have been using the same tactics on U.S. Citizenry. Elements of the U.S. economy use these techniques on consumers, customers, suppliers, each other, etc. The power of an open honest lifestyle is that it provides few handles for nepharious engineering and while learning to defend oneself effectively against the inevitable self serving attacks (simulated, imagined, or real) one can learn a lot about information warfare ..... strategy and tactics. If you refuse to play or exercise your responsibility as a world citizen then really you should not whine at the rest of us about your lot in life.

Regarding the televised guidelines for preparation for an emergency. Three days seems like a ludicrously short prep period. It assumes big government will step in to take care of us. It is the sucker's bet. Big government will be busy responding to billionaires crying about their toys being destroyed.

I intend to get prepped to survive for up to a year if possible. This provides enough time to begin phasing in self harvested bounty of nature ..... assuming something is left after attacks or Armegeddon. Obviously water must be processed and recycled somehow with the outside environment if such a system is to be mobile. Local cisterns are possible and I spotted several homesteads that already have them setup. Perhaps if things get truly desperate I can convince their owners that a fairly creative goal oriented engineer is useful to have around when national manufacturing and distribution systems are on the verge of breaking down. So far Mom has resisted all proposals to put in our own cistern system in that could be used in conjunction with a greenhouse and water pond/garden to cleanse our house roof run off and vehicle oil spots as well as pollutants from up neighborhood. A fairly small investment in components would allow some excellent systems to be built from scraps that are available around town. Everybody wants clean water but nobody wants to clean it. Lovely. Yep rural people are much more responsible than metro concentrations. True stewards of the land and its resources. People have been out in force attempting to catch the last few salmon in the Coquille River and the State of Oregon allows them to purchase the privelege. Unthinkable to let the fish breed until you could walk accross the river during a run again. No wonder the Coquille River always seems so dead. It evolved with millions of salmon bringing nutrients back from the sea to the headwaters. Now it struggles by with a few tens. We could at least pump our sewage up to the headwaters points and allow nutrient trickle down if we cannot responsibly let enough breeders through for the wildlife to select for replenishment of the run in future years.

P.S. Field exercise. Spotted a box that would be good location for a bomb. Local authorities and owners of the equipment indicated that no ongoing concern or monitoring was necessary or appropriate. Everybody knows terrorists like big splashy metro targets so rural rustics such as us can be complacent. No doubt the big metro areas will soon be complacent that big U.S.G. military is on the job so no U.S. citizen could be expected or desire to contribute to taking care of the themselves or their families themselves. Sometimes it is hard to believe that we (the U.S.) are among the best on this planet. Maybe the next fish family that crawls out and discovers thinking after we are gone will do better. Maybe not. Fermi asked a good question: "Where are they?"

Emergency Response Plans

I am outlining a draft emergency response plan for rapid evacuation of Coquille. The local authorities do not wish to give me a copy of theirs until I have submitted mine. I will assume that they know my mother (a long time local resident) is adequately briefed and attentive to local situation and my whereabouts such that she can be responsible for getting me out of a hazard zone in a timely manner in the event of a chemical or biological attack or emergency. The alternative (that the local authorities have no effective coordinated plans) is highly unlikely. They appear very competent to seeing eyes. Kipling has nothing on these rural guerillas, they have been outlasting and surviving corrupt influences from Salem and Washington for decades. Getting close to the end of their rope however, most of my and several other generations have had to move elsewhere seeking gainful employment.

Anyway, in the worst case that they are totally unprepared, by the time mom and I finish our dry run in loading her Bronco and bugging out, she and I will be better prepared to survive a surprise attack or disaster whether we choose to stay and fight (say rearguard or pre-empting future attacks) or runaway and regroup with reinforcements to bring back.

Coquille is fortunate, we have many egress options and natural defense points. 4 major highways approximating the points of the compass in 3 directions. A river, East/West A railroad, East River stretches adequate for seaplane or emergency ditch of small aircraft Flat farm fields suitable for ultralight aircraft landing and takeoff Small airports in Bandon, Lakeside, and Norway suitable for small aircraft Commercial airports in North Bend, Eugene, .... possible Roseburg ... must check.

A strong local tradition of football such that local residents and worker understand the benefit of coordinated sweeps, crossblocks, dives and various blitz/pass options.

Just started learning soccer so the localized situational awareness necessary to shift forces to massively out number the opponent at each point of engagement until they are defeated in detail in a long running sustained guerilla operation is a bit new locally. Fortunately we are surrounded by communities who seem must better than we at this strategy so we have help availalbe when we need it even if we are not yet excellent at providing help to our neighbors in achieving mutual goals. At least we are learning.

We have a lot of commercial trucks in the area which are kept loaded and ready to perform at short notice. The local school buses are more advanced than anything I remember, the wiring harnesses look remniscent of USAF flightlines and the communications horns and antennas look capable of satellite communications in the unlikely event that our local incident command vehicle and supporting emergency volunteers and professionals are taken out or lose track of a bus.

Careful allocation of CDL drivers will be necessary to assure that all local residents and visitors are reliably evacuated in a safe responsible manner while bringing all the tools, gear, supplies, data, etc. necessary to live off the land while building a temporary base camp or new city as appropriate in the designated rendezvous point. In all probability we would build a temporary camp and get help from other U.S. cities and citizens, (ala the trade tower incident and response) but should the worst occur and Armeggedon escalate through some miscalculation, mishap or intentional stupidity by the greedy power hungry currs who have been mismanaging the global economy to date to allout species threatening warfare we want each evacuation group to be capable of rebuilding human civilization with liberty loving principles while seeking out the morons responsible and exterminating them in turn.

Field Exercise

I attended the local high school varsity women's soccer game last night. Our opponent was Brookings. They outclassed us badly although our fundamentals seemed as good or better than theirs. The key was teamwork. Their players worked well together shifting local details around to maintain local superiority of numbers and talent at the point of engagement and surrournding area (the ball +- 20 yards). Our players seemed a bit lackdaisical and unwilling to run to assist each other. As a result we scored no goal that I notices. Estimates of the score from bystanders (I was scaling barge designs up and down with local resources so I occasionally missed some action. Also there was a lot of other prototyping going on. Some little kids were practicing stealth and hunting skills in blinds along the sidelines while several middle schoolers were capturing the balls before they could go over the side of the carrier .... er. .... bank of the local creek.) ranged from 9 - 0 to 3 - 0. I think they will do much better soon as they get better at working together instead of merely excelling as individuals.

Interestingly enough the local PE classes do much better, as I was watching and learning how to paint from local contractors working on the Varsity Football stadium a team of 13 students were playing a complex form of workup where the teams at bat varied from 3 to 5 people while there were always 8 in the field and one person on the bench. If I did not know that Coquille is stuck in the tree age behind the armpit of nowhere I would almost have suspected some wargaming or debate regarding the proper disposition of existing USN carrier battlegroups for maximum effect against external threats and terrorists while maintaining an adequate home defense. Further complicating the issue is how much of the USN assets are best employed in assisting home defense forces with rapid ramp ups of the recent influx of aware citizens and willing volunteers seeking to implement President Bush's orders to get prepared and be ready.

I wonder how many people realize the difference between a carrier on offensive operations and a carrier acting as a lily pond is the armament on the Combat Air Patrols above the battlegroup? A terrorist mangled in defense of humanitarian efforts and personnel prior to achieving an optimum position for a suicidal attack of maximum efficacy in creating damage and terror in the target population is still a mangled terrorist even though the rules of engagement clearly specified defensive action only. The U.S. military doctrine has long experience in the best defense is a good offense. While the American Nation is currently willing to give some barbarians some time to think about embracing civilized ideals of liberty and justice for all I believe we will be unwilling to allow them free reign in terrorizing their captive populations.

I could be wrong. Recent history shows pretty clearly that domestic economic terrorists and billionaires have managed to corrupt our legislature and the U.S. Supreme Court. It may be that American Citizens will need whatever assistance can be provided by neighbors and other liberty loving nations to first free themselves before the U.S. military can be used effectively to protect humanitarian relief forces delivering relief directly to individual people instead of corrupt organizations who use it to secure their power base and swiss bank accounts.

I spent a little time reviewing the basics of methane and alcohol production from farm waste and surplus crops. Perhaps American little guys should go isolationist for a while and break the U.S. oil/defense cartel before venturing out into hostile barbarous lands with a confused and often pyschotic military. Remember that Timothy McVeigh was trained/brainwashed by the U.S. military and was a decorated war here of the Desert Storm fiasco. Notice how no Democratic elections ever occurred in Kuwait despite lip service from the ruling thugs? Is there even any preparation underway to teach the population sufficient skills and personal responsibility to transition to a more Democratic society of equal citizen peers vs. nobles, moguls, peasants, harems, alien class workers, etc. etc. Come to think of it is the U.S. really prepared to give Mexican migrant workers so critical to domestic industry full rights and responsibilities as productive citizens or do we still have WASPs and imported NAZIs in key locations of federal and local governments?

The lady devils last night appeared to have no such safety net available to help reduce the chance of permanent paralysis that can result from mishandling spinal injuries despite the fact that they were routinely practicing and using head shots.

I believe that any user of goods and services can do much to maintain its quality by telling the designers and creators what they like about the product or service. When I was in college my little sisters bitched because when I came home Mom always fixed food I liked. It took them approximately ten years to finally acknowledge this was probably because I told Mom what a fine supper she had cooked and that I enjoyed it immensely. They theory at the time was rank favoratism no matter how many times I told them to just compliment the chef and say thank you regarding the courses they liked.

Should we should send aid to flood or winter storm victims in Canada who express appreciation of the U.S. and enjoy our company despite our admittedly odd and often arrogant world view ..... or to African nations who use the opportunity to shoot, kidnap, torture, kill, etc. our relief workers; peacekeepers; and even regular military? Add to this that the assistance as it has been delivered in the past is delivered to shieks, kings, "businessmen", "charitable non profit organizations", "missionaries", thugs, etc. who misuse the generosity of gullible American citizens busy enjoying their own productive lives to consolidate power and concentrate economic activity to their own benefit and it seems obvious to me which I would choose in the past and will continue to choose until some basic groundrule changes have been prototyped and implemented. To black bigots who would label me a racist while calling themselves "African Americans" I say that I am an American despite European and Indian influences in my genetic makeup. A white mind is also a terrible thing to waste and I spent some time in Dade County, Florida schools surviving the onslaught of black bigots, gangs, hate crimes, and hooliganism your bigotry has spawned in your communities instead of studying the excellent material that Mays Jr. High had to offer white, black, hispanic students. It is a deficiency in time applied I have occasionally regretted and I remember who and what color the "students" getting in the way of my education were.

Anyway, I have to go. I am reorganizing the garage and carport so I can move out of the house. This will stop keep mom from disrupting my projects but will probably slow her down a bit more. I need to focus on getting some cottage manufacturing up and running. We seem to have a lot of small street fairs and peddlers moving through down and I think if I can sell them trinkets cheap I can avoid getting a job or a web site up to generate revenue. I think I am about done with the pennies thing for a while ..... been profitable though I still have some filberts on the way from Salem in exchanges for showing the neighbor kids some trivia about teamwork, preplanning, tool use, and field testing within the context of an active industrial process zone. I think only about ten percent took but the puzzled looks indicated some will sink in later. I should get the guys some small crescent wrenches so they can really start training their mom and dad. 8)

Earth's resources are becoming scarce enough to threaten our standard of living here in the U.S.; they are certainly insufficient to raise the rest of the world up to our level without supplementation.

In reading up on this interest of mine I found the main barriers remaining to it implementation are largely concerned with people: effects on living patterns, physical and mental health, political consequences, etc.; all these human factors must be studied and planned for in the design and implementation of a space colony. This intrigued me gradually and I became much more intensely interested in people and how we live together in group situations than I once was.

Having a twin brother helped prepare me for group living. I learned to be flexible and give in on issues important to Mitch without compromizing my own beliefs and/or interests too seriously. It helped that Mitch was learning the same lesson. It is a little harder at times to apply this principle to strangers, aquaintenances, and friends. (listed in order of difficulty) Moving around so much helped me learn how to make friends quicker and easier than might have otherwise been the case. I feel these factors of my background have aided me enormously in linving in the dorms here at college.

I am easygoing; although at times, when placed in the correct situation, I can be extremely stubborn. I like doing new things out of the ordinary and I am subject to occasional attacks of" "What the hell," or, alternatively phrased "Why not?". I try to be open minded but I also value my own opinions. I don't mind doing favors for people and conversely I am not bashful about asking for help when I need it. None of these are very obvious qualities but they become apparent to people I associate with fairly quickly.

Enter mild mannered Mike Irwin followed by a stawart cohort and twin brother Mitch. My father was in the military so Mitch and I remained Air Force brats until we were in our sixteenth year, which is when my father retired. Due to this background I have lived all around the country and in several different types of climates.

I value friendships very highly, partly because I have moved around so much and left friends behind but also because I'm a friendly type of guy. I look for qualities I like in my friends and consequently I generally find quite a few, enough to overlook the occasional shortcomings one finds in people. I am not strongly religious (yet?) but I do come from a fairly religious background. I try to follow the golden rule and if given enough time I could probably recall most of the ten commandments.

Living on Air Force bases I was exposed to advanced technology and people trained to apply it efficiently. I find math and science interesting and have above average aptitudes for both. In light of these facts it is not astonishing that I became interested in space flight at an early age. I have remained interested and ultimately I hope to migrate into space. The asteroid belt seems like a nice location.

Studies are currently being conducted on the feasibility of establishing self-sustaining colonies, communities of around ten thousand people, .......

Field exercise 3. I donned my father's flight suit and armed myself with knowledge and data accumulated from previous combat chattering efforts and meandered downtown to propose a local hospice, emergency preparedness plan, proactive crime prevention (large long term payoff!), assistance for buddies with errant children running wild and careless in assuring themselves that their children might survive and stay out of trouble long enough to awaken to the finer things in life, and a few other things.

Made a twenty cent profit cause I picked up 3 aluminum cans and a plastic bottle along the way. Met a lot of fairly old, very competent, friendly individuals and chattered with them as the spirit moved us.

Today I pray that our Afghani brethren who love freedom for themselves and others as do we Americans, strive creatively to live long enough to prospor with a little assistance from their friends. Amen.

Hello all, I am back online for the moment.

Lots of excitement to report so I barely know where to start. Since last we met (when I proposed myself as a potential team leader or staff assistant) I have completed a couple of small field exercises. I did not complete much actual work but I did get some prototyping done which I will try to describe in more detail either here or elsewhere as I have time.

Exercise 1: Walked off and hitchhiked for a few miles. Met a few former hitchhikers who had been doing this for 20 to 30 year without changing the world. Ok. This approach well tested but not quite synergistic enough to meet demanding schedule.... at least not in small numbers. Larger teams might contribute in solid ways while preparing for more advanced work/play opportunities. Very dangerious, be sure you have completed very solid self defense and self understanding courses before attempting to contribute in this way. On a brighter note I have submitted some ideas to Coquille's local volunteer fire department {have a professional chief to help volunteers organize and train ... 8) } and the local grant point men on ways to increase beds available at local hospital in case of epidemics or biological attacks and make a profit in the meantime by facilitating hitchhiker or toursist travel through town's local rural zones. Basically, citizens or police or fire patrols or border patrols or state troopers will know to pickup hitchhikers and drop them at the hospice/hospital for hot meals, showers, bed, etc. Arrangements can also be made to then provide them a ride back to the ridepoint of the next participating town (Bandon, Riverton, Coos Bay, Myrtle Point, Arago, Norway, Coaledo, Millington, Lakeside, etc.) by land, air, sea, rail, teleo, internet, or teleport as most appropriate and safe for the individual hitchhiker after they have or have not availed themselves of the local resources and knowledge bases regarding the local freedom trails, webs, trust nets, etc.

Anyway, I cut through mk rail and admired their big iron, tank farms, adjacent training labs, construction zones and dropped $200 on a bush, stashed $20 in a bottle in case I came back through .... this is in a location disclosed so far only to me and a hitchhiker in the next field exercise. Sat in the sun next to an old crane cab and admired the view of big iron team relects awaiting revival or recycling as raw materials as we deem most appropriate and thought about life, the universe and myself for a while. Spotted a potential leaky valve (an obvious test excercise so it was easy not to panic .... but possibly a real problem so it was urgent enough the I noted the emergency contact number and reported the problem through several contact points for diverisity and redundance) but it turned out to probably have been a steam valve actuating and releasing.

Also scouted construction zone on federal way. Several nice men showed me how they anchor big water line jointed after they meet up and are put in place under tension by traversing two ends together and allowing the extra male to slide into the female; then concrete is poored which is damn near a religious wedding band, no wonder the masons are centered in the construction trades of archaic days.

Exercise 2. The next day I headed to Coquille from Boise. I picked up a hitchhiker with a pack who looked worthy of a ride. He was not waiting for a ride he was hauling ass towards town. So after I passed him and looked him over I circled back and offered him a ride. It turned out he was also headed to I-5 but needed to shop around for some equipment. We cruised Boise for several hours and finally managed to find him a good sandwich, a good pack, a bunch of toys and questions and answers back and forth between us, a little politicking with the local yokals and few foreigners and then we hauled ass for some as yet unspecificed intersection with I5 where we would part ways. We spent the night in Bend at a Red Lion (one of at least two and perhaps 3 to 5?) which seemed to have a bunch go getters and tool users in the party. We packed and we packed. We shopped and did laundry. I dropped some big shoes off to be refurbished for myself, my brother, a buddy or something. We sniffed at some church types and foreign emissaries together while they looked us over. Then we headed out, poorer in cash but each wealthier than we started. Then we scared the hell out of each other. Troy did not like me decided to keep the car gassed up at each little town. He took to smoking in the gas stations under the no smoking signs. We had fight and he got out. We made up and agreed to fullfill our mutual committment to get to I-5 even though we did not see eye to eye and each felt dangourously corrupt to the other. I would not let Troy drive anymore as he seemed juvenile to me. I finally realized he was dropping ashes into the forrest in a high fire hazard area and asked he stop, which he cheerfully did. We both got very sleepy (I forgot, this was big problem night before too, a borland or hotel california kind of road getting to the Bend motel, but we made it by working together a little bit) Troy appearing to nod off occasionally since he was not responsible for driving; me pretending to believe he was asleep and keeping the car above 50 mph so he could not safely attack me. The road was endless and potential collaborators seemed to be parked every 50 to 100 yards. Finally we came out at Albany and I let Troy off in center of Albany where I felt safe, within a few miles of I5. We agreed he should come visit me at my Parents place if he called ahead so I could escort him into a strange neighborhood and brief him on the important rules courteous visitors follow locally by community consensus. He gave me a baseball which a little league hero created for him by hitting it out of the ballball and seemed quite happy with his pack upgrade. I have signed the baseball next to his signature and passed it on, hopefully to the GP company picnic someone is attempting to schedule here locally, but it does not really matter as long as it gets used somewhere with love to help maintain Troy and I's ability to get along with each other and each other's buddies.

Reported to police station that I was again alone and OK, mom was worred when I called from Bend gas station and I could not reach my buddy there before resuming my committment to Troy to get him to I-5. Tried to find family Cork but was disoriented by all the new construction, Albany is growing like a weed. Oremet Titanium is gone and much disruption resulted in the local neighborhoods. Decided to press for home. Met a bunch of truckers on the road and a lot of little big people cruisin for parts known and unknown. Stopped for dinner and independent parity check at Reedsport? Damn fine looking waitress and I think she liked me, lots of old people trying to decide what to do with me. I enjoyed a fine meal and got up to pay when I felt like it after watching the vehicles drive in and out and then counted my remaining funds and repacked my wallets for their vieiwng pleasure. Some seemed disconcerted at the majic numbers I came up with. Must have been for different sectors of expertise than they were expecting from the local ghetto.

Here at home I have been continuing with various homework and chores. I shall attempt to detail and/or document some of them in more detail if I have time and they appear useful for someone or myself's further eddification or data mining in the near or possibly far future.

A good friend has invited me to Tacoma and offered to provided $50 worth of gas money to defray the expenses. My brother is mailing the wallet I accidentally mailed to him with my drivers license back to me and I will probably do some traveling and visit some friends on the way back to Boise via Tacoma. Meanwhile I have mentioned my friends names and numbers to local officials as good resources to help us put a synergistic prototyping shakedown cruise together for the new helicopter carrier being equipped for med evac and humanitarian missions. If we do not come up with a good enough plan to meet the USN's operational requirements (has to be pretty good to get federal money out of metro areas and into rural areas ....U.S. politcial systems and administration are all pretty corrupt ... tax the lower cash flow areas and bomb the weathly with billion dollar programs) then we can go with the backup that bobo, other local yokels and I have begun combat chattering about. Basically, we are investing whether ocean going tugs and barges can be used effectively as Coast Guard Helicopter Carriers/Logistics Staging Bases along friendly coasts. Clearly after prototyping is completed by U.S.G. federal forces the USN, USAF, USA, and USMC are going to be busy spotting for humanitarian efforts to allies and alleged friendlies who have mixed feelings about our prescence. I am of the opinion that is it time for new management and very new support posture for humanitarian efforts. I have proposed to our local fire volunteers that their incident command vehicle should be escorted by a few f-16s or f15s and some attack helicopters when calling on certain Sovereign Americans who insisted on violating other America Citizens inalienable rights. I will leave to your imagination the measures that we may take in escorting our valuable joyful best qualified volunteers and professionals who could be doing mission critical work at home in the USA where they were born, raised, trained, and educated which provides a local return on investment in the short term to assure that foreign thugs are not mistreating our people or people our people are attempting to lend a neighborly helping hand.

As clue I will share with you that a properly planned mission that explodes into a shooting match will have fairly one sided casualties or at least some of our U.S. Citizens are going to want to know why and we are discovering means and methods of finding out and tracing the origin of problems back to even multi billion dollar conglomerate based here at home in good ol USA and waving flags frantically while pretending their shit does not stink.

jpalme pitches initial outline of new Network Managment System

This makes a little sense to me as follows: Basically each node tracks each other accepted node in scripts on the local command post system and throws untrusted systems out of communication until trusted communications can be reestablished somehow. Possibly physical couriers with sufficient information to maintain secure links for some period of time. Say malx's electronic message cards in sufficient sized boxes. Probably some material around the net on how the U.S.G. manages its encryption keys and machines. Nobody touch anything illegal. Developing our own methods is better anyway because they are not as easy to compromise.

Advantages: Each neronal node in the neural net potentially has the ability to grow back into a full neural command net. Even with catastrophic communications failure due to opponent's success well timed for nepharious activity, each node can dig in and begin growing back to other nodes. To me this seems to mean that there must be excellent first contact protocols. We must be able to reliably be able to determine whether we should: 1.) ignore them (enemy go stone that can be toggled in the future) 2.)diabologically allow them to win while we flip to our side 3.) Destroy key elements deemed unsalvageable (Note that at least one high command has expressly forbidden this method.) This method risks corrupting our side and our elements trapped on the other side as the ripples in grief, anger, matyrism, propaganda spread through the population they are angry when thinking of the destroyers on the other side and patriotically idiotized by idolizing their sides generals who wish to become deities. Since we are the good guys we must maintain the respect and brotherly love of the population unless our objective is to have a king of the hill armeggedon, winner take all. This is indeed the objective of the enemy units.

Notice that when we near preparation for final assault, we can flip the net proposed to unencrypted full broadcast and archive. Many "dear enemies" will be exposed to information previously hidden from them and convert spontaniously to our side. Obviously with the approach laid out it will be possible to add these disorganized nodes to the chaos battallions. Nobody ever knows what those goofy idots are up to even after they have forgotten unitl the results come in, speaking from only projections and personal observation it looks like effective fools triggering waves of giggling fits in pools of competing agents tends to escalate everybody and even organize some of them. It looks to me like the animators are on our side and the cartoons are effective, takes a while to work up.

Jpalme, buddy, even if we do not end up using a derivative of your system you are clearly a valuable assets to have in play. Do as you choose lover (as always, apologies all around for forgetting the courtesies so often) but speaking as your valentine coach I recommend that you take enough time to keep not only your wife but her friends and her mother's friends buttered up. They miss a shiny knight's attentions (like you) very quickly without constant background mainenance, grumpy ones can lock you down just when the action gets critical. Better that the well loved ones keep your mother-in-law smothered in affection, if she will not join us lovers this will keep her confused enough that she is not a threat. Notice this is the same strategy that we shall be practicing in our simulated information campaigns and planning. These to become carefully neutral multimedia that is so hilarious even to non functional grumpy gray matter that it hurts a little less and works a little better.

Notice that jpalme clearly has managed this session for the benefit of the neophytes and apprentices who have not quite figured it out yet. You guys be careful when you start to see it. I spent this morning enjoying the local physical neighorhood because a little girl getting a paper for her mommie told me how to get one, how much it would cost, etc. as we danced back and forth shouting accross a forty foot road in a nice neighborhood. She dispatched me to a local convenience store for change, pointed out they had good ice cream, and all but ordered me to join her in a nice joyful 5 or 6 year outlook on like. I have been in the zone and improving the rest of the day.

DO NOT get isolated on your computers. We desperately need the communications which mean that all of you here helping build and maintain the communications infrastructure are mission critcal personnel if you enjoy your work here. If not go find something fun and useful to do. Firetrucks are neato, join a volunteer search and rescue. Go take some CPR or emergency first aid classes. Help us convince the old crowd to use the audio tools some people hear are developing for them to report their aches, pains, reactions, symptons, side effects, prescriptions, etc to an online medical database. The distributed proccessing resources that we are bringing online should allow the medical proffession to soon start making small improvements. Small improvements in this area have large obvious impacts which ripple far and wide.

Sorry for the repetition but it is necessary. We have approximately how many neurons in our brains? A biomedical book claimed 6 Billion but I find that number a bit cooincidental with the approximate human population. The number is large they apparently talk to each other with varying weights because they all sit in the same chemical bath, and each neuron emits and detects several neurotransmitters. All this yak yak and read read and write write causes the brain to cleanse itself of fractures and partial truths that have been programmed in for centuries. Read some holy books outside your primary faith if you are religious and notice the great simularity between key concepts. Looking at different and simliar materials and ideas in as many ways as possible will help break down old patterns that were responsible for the mental damage that was keeping us down.

gman Thanks for the training tips, the mark of a master or a journeyer in our larger journey.. I also had a frog jump in the bathroom window once while I was soaking in a hot tub. When I started to carefully grab him before he could fall in the hot water he richocheted around the steamy plastic enclosed space 3 times and back out. ..... I could almost hear my former baby sisters and lately neices and nephews cackling as they get away briefly from adult or partially responsible control that they can do it by themselves. Sometimes they can and sometimes they cannot. I close the window now when I wish to soak. Frogs, cats, dogs, bugs, etc. wander by occasionally when I take the time to sit out in my mothers garden. I am heading over there in the next couple of days and really looking forward to it now. The local parks are nice but very groomed and controlled. In Oregon the vegetation is much more irrepressible and requires much less care. High benefit/cost ratio. Appeals to the engineer in me.

amars Seems like pretty good operational information and considerations for any one planning to find a good online set of classes to participate in such as myself. Personally I think the XM-IVL or virugle as it is used here has excellent potential for online collaborative essays and large documents. Imagine an english, math, and science class collaborating online with a community of open space engineers or a medical researcher to provide a final polished draft for the best qualified technical personal to review and correct one last time before publishing. It seems to me that such a class would teach much to all involved as well as giving junior participants the chance to participate meaningfully. Imagine watching a space shuttle launch knowing that you had assisted significantly in producing the massive amount of documention necessary to "make it so." If this seems infeasible to you, perhaps you could go look at the volume of material hitting sci.space.tech and sci.space.station every day and provide a detailed analsysis iff you choose to as a method of particpation that pleases yourself and your lovers. I started to join but I found a couple of dillies buried in the clauses that sound a bit the vendor has their own interests at heart more than that of their customers.

Personally I think the request to not post contact information is pushing the envelope a bit, but I might find that acceptable. A drop box where people can find would be useful since I move a lot. I do not mind paying for valuable service delivered and they are providing a contact service, messenger service and even possibly as much a a couple of kb of storage space per expected customer to run the whole thing.

However, I found two details in the terms of service that bothered me a lot .... 3 now since I cannot apparently according to their verbage quote them directly. Since I am not in the mood to argue fair usage in front U.S. courts their mediocro performance in key issues in the last few years, I will probably just avoid this site in the near future.

I may even run a google to find out where Coquille, Class of 79 hangs out. As I recall we did not put up with much nonsense from instructors and actual figures of authority, I seriously doubt that many of my High School buddies will spend much time there now that these serious deficiencies in their concept of "service" have been identified.

rupert Driving with hearing impairment would seem less mission critical than becoming once again ambulatory. I am not totally certain that I understand the question completely or even well enough to synergize effectively, particularly in the abscence of meaningful input from a variety of sources.

Perhaps a local advogato master can moderate a discussion on the front page. Observers take notes. Politeness will be expected from now on in public forums even from acknowledged. If charges of agitated idiot are laid then an appropriate reveiw board can be convened to do the logic combat necessary to present the detailed particulars of the case to the voters in the community, if either disputant is adament or ignorant enough to insist. If mutual apologies are sufficiently authentic that a local mentor is willing to address finding synergistic ways to apologise to the community at large, then we shall expect better behavior in the future and put it joyfully behind.

Might be better if we made this a team competition and had preliminary debates to sort out the major factions and allow the apprentices and masters to join team of their choice. Even though it is humerous consider that a modern U.S fighter jet with one pilot on board (IIRC, very fuzzy) typically has 3 redundant 1553. Should a 747 with 300 or 400 people on board then have only one or shall we demand nine, 3 sets of 3 totally different methods that attempt to vote if an error occurs and reach a life critical decision without human intervention.

Now picture yourself in 20 years managing your stock portfolio with a single free source of software while 75 percent of stock investors (90%) in the USA are running more robust diverse redundant software agents which managing their portfolios 10 to 20 seconds faster and 2% more correctly than your agent. Is this going to make it easy to keep up with your kids supercomputer requirements and send them to MIT in person?

Consider that we are multiplexing a global network with aproximately a new set of protocols and processing methods about every 5, 10, 15, 20 years? What is a generation of technical professionals? If we get them to work together then:

1.) We have something to depend on to spot a mistake and help track it down.

2.) We have more flexibility in substituting individual hardware and software components and designs. More diversity means more design options. Study what you like, study something to put bread on the table, enjoy yourself and do not try to learn it all. Impossible. I recommend that when you run into a know it all or a complete religious ideologue you consider rapid distancing. My heads sometimes too trying to keep up with enough to attempt to outline projects that are synergistic and implementable. Part of the answer is better personal balance, not wishing for simpler aggregate system.
