Unfortunately, web developers have always had to "target" browsers, because they all render differently and they get paid to create content that "always" looks a specific way. Standards are good, but browsers are only begining to implement them correctly. For example, I have a relatively simple page that verifies as XHTML and CSS using the W3C validators, guess what, the page renders differently in Opera, Konq, Mozilla, IE w32, IE mac and Netscape 4.x. I'll need to make changes to that simple page to "target" browsers, maybe changes that will break its W3C valid'ness. Anyhow, my hope is that Safari will remain close enough to Konq. so that they will render equivalently, as Gecko has done across platforms.
I wonder what MS's response will be if they do replace IE. Maybe Apple is planning ahead with "keynote" and the possible lack of Office X in the future.

Lots to like about Safari
and lots of questions.

Why didn't Apple use Gecko?
Does this mean yet another browser for web developers to target or will Konqueror's khtml render equivalently?
Will it be the default browser for OS X?

Saw AOTC on IMAX yesterday. You could see lots of pixelation on some scenes, but overall the transfer was good. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was different edit that the theatrical release.

What changed.

Redundant scenes, removed.
Several cheesy Anakin/Padmé scenes, removed or edited!(thank god).
Even a few additions to the battle sections.

OMG! Mac IE 5.x is a horrible mess. HTML that renders perfectly everywhere else is broken and javascript, broken!

What kind of deal did Apple make with MS to ship this abomination?

ib: I'm all for replacing MS with OSX on the desktops where I work and I agree it's a great way to get *nix on every desktop. In fact I'm working right now with OSX Server to see how well it'll integrate with our campus LDAP for authentication.

Maybe it's a good thing, even at the cost of slowed development on my "favored" platforms.

Digging around to see if an app. had been ported to Gnome2 yet, I made a somewhat disheartening discovery. It seems to me that the we[1] are loosing way to many good development cycles to work on applications for the OSX platform.

I'm not saying OSX isn't a great environment, I just think we[1] should think really hard at the reasons to enhance/develop applications for propriatary platforms vs open platforms.

Taking the dog for a walk the other day...
I see 2 Highschool age guys in a front yard.
They had a:

rope

helmet

motercycle

video camera

I sensed trouble, so I stop and ask "What's up?". One of the fellows gives me a strange look and says "School project, yeah school project, that's right".

Wanting no part of this, I hurry along with my dog walk.
Needless to say, I eagerly awaited the 11:00pm news for a report.
