- Unfortunately, web developers have always had to "target" browsers, because they all render differently and they get paid to create content that "always" looks a specific way. Standards are good, but browsers are only begining to implement them correctly. For example, I have a relatively simple page that verifies as XHTML and CSS using the W3C validators, guess what, the page renders differently in Opera, Konq, Mozilla, IE w32, IE mac and Netscape 4.x. I'll need to make changes to that simple page to "target" browsers, maybe changes that will break its W3C valid'ness. Anyhow, my hope is that Safari will remain close enough to Konq. so that they will render equivalently, as Gecko has done across platforms.
- I wonder what MS's response will be if they do replace IE. Maybe Apple is planning ahead with "keynote" and the possible lack of Office X in the future.
