This webchat is an old idea. Back in 1998 a friend of mine showed me a concept of a webchat, built using C. The ideas was good, and a very interesting project. I was very interested, but at that time I wasn't able to put it to work.
But time passes, and then I decided to make it work. At first I was thinking in building a new company around this project, but then I decided to release it under GPL.
Why another webchat? Because I'd like to build a high-performance webchat, able to accept thousands of users connected to the same room (it happens in web-interviews), I saw a non-GPL PHP webchat crash with 30 users. I think that it could be a good option, not only as a product, but also by developing interesting conceptions when handling users on-line connected through a HTTP communication link.
Where are we? Well, we means me, I am developing this project practly alone. I had some help, but they're gone, basicaly due to my incapacity to keep continuous track of this project. Although I still have lots of hits and downloads, probably due to the concepts developed by me and my contributors.
Will it continue? Yes. I'm still having some problems when running cchatd, I don't even have a stable version, and usually have core dump problems. To tell the truth there was a stable version, but I inserted a parser that is not as stable as the old alpha version :o/
What can I do? Well, this is a free software project, and anybody can help, I mean, I'll be very proud to receive help. Basicaly our first version v0.1 is almost done, I only need to stop this parser instability.
For those who want to contact me about this project, please, it'll be my pleasure.
