It just doesn't make sense to me. My code is my work, my art. Did Mozart give away his music (yes, but he sold a fair bit of it as well). Did Degá paint only for the greater good? (No, but he did that too.) <p>What I like about OS is the unstructured organization. The ability to work on what is interesting, difficult, and on my whim. It is the democratization of software development. <p>I don't like that it pressures me (if not forces) to release my work gratis. Is that a misconception? In order to free myself from the rigid confines of tranditional corporate structure, do I need to deny the value of my work? <p> <p>I intend to find out. I intend to experiment here.
