asp is ok....
....but PHP is better!
Today I convinced the company Im freelancing for to convert from ASP to PHP. The best part of this is that it gives me alot of workinghours with good payment.
I also gat another new job as IT security cunsultant for a security firm in Denmark - Only problem now is that I have to stop calling "coding" for Hacking, because the customers gets scared when I say I will hack it for them :o)

Hacking:
I have added myself to the i18n team of the Openoffice.org project, and expect to do some work there later on. Im currently too busy to do anything other than muy work, but that should change rapidly soon - at least I hope so. kanikus should be finished making the xml2pot script we were working on, and im almost half done converting the first of the Nautilus Console Scripts into C (from PERL). My only problem is the Parser part, and the LibXML support (which I must Have fucked up somewhere).

Life...
Havent't been around for a while because I havent really had any sparetime for Linux projects.
Last Friday I was out eating traditionally Danish Food with Alan cox (in Copenhagen,Denmark) and saturday I was i Lund, Sweden to se him Entertain 300-400 geeks with his story about the 2.4 kernel. Damn that man is funny (if you read this Alan then Thanx for a fun evening in Copenhagen), and it amacing how many different hardware parts he know to the fingertips.

Hacking..
Im still playing around with SML, and my problem at the moment is advanced mathmatical Higher-order functions (sounds cool right!). I have also started translating the Nautilus scripts from perl into C, so it can use GVFS i later versions. Haven't gotten the libxml to work correct yet though - but im getting there. Im also working on a small gnome applet that collects the different geek strips from the net (userfriendly, Dilbert etc.), Catagorise them and always shows the newest when the button is pushed. More about this one will follow.
Giving Away....
.....free CD's and Tux merchandise
Today we had Linux Demo Day in Denmark (celibrating the 9. birthday of Linux). We were a group of linux entiusiasts in most af the biggest shoppingmalls in Copenhagen, and we were giving out CD's with Linux, Staroffice and Helix gnome to everyone who showed a little interest. Besides that we are having an installparty in SSLUG (the worlds biggest LUG) on thursday, and allready now ALOT of people have announced their coming. It's going to be fun because we have to install linux on a couple og Imac's and other weird PC wannabees :o) (ok im not a big apple fan).

Hacking
Still not much going on. I have startet converting the Nautilus console scripts to C instead of Perl, because the nautilus ppl wanted Gnome VFS support or somthing like that. It's quite a job, because of all the parser script lines. C Is just not made for parsers.
Sofar....
.....So good
Ok we now got the final date for the GUADEC 2001. It will be on the 6. to 8. of april 2001 in Copenhage, Denmark.
We have already talked about alot of cool workshops and speaks, and im sure it's going to be a cool conference. This year we will also try to get some more action for the users, so it's not only for the developers this year - well 2 days for hackers and one day for users

Hacking
nothing much at the moment....still playing around with SML (mosML), and im getting kinda keened on that language. It's just so fuc.... easy to make mathmatical calculation with it, so now I just have to refresh my math memory. :o)
printers are very usefull....
.....when they work
Damn i hate my old canon BJ200 printer. I have been working all day to get it to work under linux. I just cant get it to work with filters, and it cant print ps files without them .
so if anyone knows how to get this crap to work, then please mail me.

Hacking...
Not much going on right now. My studies have stated again, and most of my time is now reserved for that.... well this year I have 3 hacking classes.. Advances C++ (not really that advanced), Functional Programming (programming in SML hehe) and Java programming. I just love these classes, because I can do most of the work at home, and because it's not necessary to work on fucking wintendo maskines (the childrens toy from MS known as windows).
Weee I got a new love in my life....
......it's my new superduper computer.
Today I got the last parts for my new computer, and I must say im excited :o) It's a Athlon Tunderbird 800mhz, with 256mb Ram, 40gb harddrive, and ofcause with CD, CDR and DVD . I just runs perfect with linux, and I just love when everything is loaded in less than a sec.
well enough about my new computer...

Hacking:
I've been working on the Nautilus Trash Script, and it now supports wildcards (*) when it deletes files and restores files. I still has some problems with directories, but im working on that.
The next release will also be able to handle multiple files with same name.
Hacking stuff...
.....The real way
Me and kanikus has been hacking one some scripts for different things. The first script is part of the Nautilus Console Scripts, and is aTrashcan script.
It's almost done....atleast for deleting/undeleting one file at a time. We had quite some problems parsing the XML files we use for information storage.
the other script is an xml2pot script, that converts XML-files containing program string info, into pot files for later translation.
Now this script is giving us some real headache. It is just so fu..... fustrating to parse xml files for strings when it has to be possible to convert it back later. Our biggest problem is that we dont have anywhere to store info about the xml-nodes (which differs from file to file). Anyone got an idea how to solve this??
Well school starts in a week, so maybe I can figure out a way to solve this when I have freshend up my memory with some new stuff.

A little of the Chat on irc.gnome.org in the channel #danmark (a Danish Channel): <hartmann> sidst jeg var forbi, var det for at se om Eskil var her
<KimuSan^> ok

(The text basically says that Eskil is a big Yuppie)
Computer are Great....
..... When they work.
Today when I came back after 2 weeks of work in the other end of Denmark, By computer suddently wouldn't start. As the Geek I am I started testing all the things im my computer and found out that it must be my mainboard that has died.
DAMNIT!!....well at least now I have an excuse for buying one of those new 1GHz CPU's and a better mainboard.
I got me a DVD drive today....even for free. It was the CO of the firm I was making a Intranet organizer system for, that gave it to me after I had finished the project yesterday. Nice when people appreciate the work that you make for them, and gives you small bonus' like this one.
ASP is ok.
...If you don't have PHP or perl.
Today I had to work with ASP for the first time since I levt The Windows platform a couple of years ago. I was actually quit efunny to get back to that language after using PHP3/4 and perl for everything you have made for the web.
I'b an old VB programmer (yes I know you can't call yourself a programmer when you write VB code, but anyway), so the ASP code was easy for me to adabt to. My only problem was that I kept putting ; (semikolon) after each line of code I wrote, and I kept trying to use the ++ and += events in my loops for adding 1 to the variable.
Tomorrow I have to go to work even though it's my birthday....And I even have to be there at 07.00AM (YIKES!!!)
hopefully I don't have to be ther too late when it's my birthday, so I can get home to my family and friends who are celibrating me.
Parents are ok
...when they takes kare of you a whole week
Today I left my little 15m^2 room to visit my parents in the other end of the country (it sounds like far away, but in Denmark that only means like 120km). I'm gonna stay there for about a week or so, because I have to work some time in my dads company (making their website turn from static pages to interactive php/asp sites). Besides this it's my birthday on August 8. and most of my family and frinds are coming over to celibrate me. :o) (BTW. im turning 20 this time, so I won't be a freaking teenager anymore).
hopefully I will get a pair of i-glass 3d gogles so I can walk the street watcing movies and surfing the net at the same time - hehe maybe not (those things are still too fuc... expensive in Denmark - and probably the rest of the world).
Well everyone send me a thought on my birthday, so it can turn out as a really great day.
Now theres only one problem! ...I have to get up freaking early for the next week to get to work)
