Good news for a change.

I *FINALLY* made some progress getting NFS to mount between linux and Irix by forcing both sides to use V2 protocol.

UPDATE: Except that I get read I/O errors on certain files. Apparently the fix is a kernel upgrade to 2.4.9+ (now in progress...).

I have just discovered the (lack of) joy when NFS mounting between linux and irix, and the "getfh" error that results. I am using RH 7.1 and so far nothing I have tried (forcing V2 NFS for example) has worked. If I can just get the Linux system to RO mount from IRIX...

Finally got around to downloading RH 7.2

Finally broke open the packaging on the Dreamcast system I got for my birthday and played Soul Calibur until my thumb went numb.

Bryce: Next time you are at home being bored come over and play.

Finally had to give up and made the Linux system use FB mode for the displays. It's a server so no big deal. Just annoying cause it should work without it.

Now investigating various ways to sync samba passwords and gid/uid information with NT. None of the ones I've seen so far are very pretty. Given how basic this need is and that's its been around forever this is somewhat surprising.

Got a bit put off by the recent samba arguments. Samba is often the #1 way to bring Linux into an NT/2000 infrastructure. It's important to our acceptance.

Updated my Caterham site last weekend (during my Birthday). Missed 2 days of work because of the snow storm, but I have been told I do not have to make them up :-)

I miss C coding. I'm gonna have to attach myself to an Open Source effort somewhere I think.

I saw LOTH during the midnight show when it opened. I liked it, but was disappointed in how they handled some of the editing. I'm always going to wonder how Gandalf got his staff back since he escaped without it.

Dave Thomas died yesterday. I thought of calling Bryce to see if he wanted to pay tribute by us having lunch there but I had a meeting.

I'm also working on getting my web cam back up. I work at a site that pretty much blocks all internet access, so I may have to use email or a clever PHP form.

I think that catches me up to date now...

Well; believe it or not, I walked into my local theater to find out what times the Lord of the Rings movie was going to show on the 19th, and I actually walked out with tickets to see it on the very first showing at noon. It's the first time the theater is selling tickets more than 24hrs in advance, and apparently some companies have already bought blocks of them for their employees.

Should be fun -- the local press is expected to be there.

Interesting thought. Is reverse-engineering a virus to prevent it or remove it, especially if it has encryption or copyright, a violation of the DMCA?

Bought the entire "The Prisoner" series on DVD. While playing with them I saw that they had a trivia Q&A section, and it was prepared by Bruce Clark of Six-of-One. Well; I know Bruce so I called him and asked why his name was plastered all over my DVDs for eternity ;-)

Updated my Caterham diary with my engine replacement adventure. Took it easy this holiday weekend. Glad to see that the ZenII upgrades didn't break my email :-)

I am now the proud owner of a Nokia 3390 cell phone with text messaging service and email :-)
