Today I figured out what I'm doing at work, and it looks
like I'll be busy BUT that won't keep me from working on the
firecracker website at ocamd.com. It
would be great if
someone could help me do some testing or bugfixing before I
release the beta. Let me know if you are interested. I
should be decided about a license pretty soon.
It's looking
more and more like GNU GPL
is the way to go. E-mail and phone
are best ways to get in touch with me. Thanks for the
suggestions so far, and please keep continue with any
feedback, good or bad.

Back on track now to do the projects I want to do. Sorry bout the delay folks.
firecracker is now off the drawing board and will be up at my
non-updated personal website soon enough. I am planning a complete site
redesign since ocamd.com is basically hosting files I made at UCSC two or three years
ago. I have 100 MB total disk space at my hosting facility but I think that will be enough
for some source files, binaries, and documentation, as well as the official web site.
If anyone is artistic and wants to contribute artwork for firecracker (it's a penetration testing
tool for Linux that I'm probably going to release under the GPL), please contact me
as soon as possible. I will keep you updated on developments as well as a launch date
when I am finished with QA. Thanks for being patient :)

Whew. Nice to be home after being "on tour" for the last 2
months. H2K to Defcon to IS2K
(Seoul) to Linuxworld. Next
summer I plan to spend more time not travelling... except
maybe for NYC or Las Vegas. Okay, back to work. I'm going
to finish up some writing work I've been putting off and
then I'll have more time to write code and/or manage the
software projects I've already initiated. I'm trying not to
stretch myself too thin, so I need to keep it simple.
Writing, Francesca, skateboarding will
probably end up
turning into Day Job, Francesca, skateboarding, writing...
when I finish writing it will become Day Job, Francesca (if
she puts up with me), skateboarding, and project
management.

I think I can I think I can =)

I just received e-mail confirmation from Emmanuel Goldstein
about being a speaker at HOPE2K. I am so stoked I think I'm
going to take the day off and go skateboarding, lay out on
the beach, and drink some beer at Kennedy's. This has really
made my day and I'll get to do a few shameless plugs in front
of a crowd that's estimated to be 25% Script Kiddies and 30%
Legit. If I was cool, I could post my first draft of my
"Linux Security and Internet Privacy" talk, but I suck :)

The product "Freedom" at Zero Knowledge is quite
intriguing.
I am hoping that someone else wants to work on a competing
product licensed under the GNU
GPL. GFreedom?... GNUsurf?

I plan to have the gnuidea.com site up within the next
several months. (edited 10 May, 2001)

Does anyone have any advice for how to release code
on a personal
website? Anyone use CVS? I was just
thinking of putting source files (in C, perl, python)
and associated binaries/header files in an public directory
for FTP access but I am thinking there must be a more
creative and effective way to do things. Well, I am all
ears so feel free to send me your flames and comments.

Best regards to all,

Justin
