Recent blog entries for jrt

joined today. i considered doing it a month ago after i met fred sanchez at MacHack and liked some of the things he said in his diary entries.

i'm rather pissed that someone has already taken my usual username, tibbetts. i don't know whether to laugh or be appalled-- it turns out that he's a sophomore at MIT, which means that tibbetts@mit.edu is also taken. so now there's no point in my going to MIT, right? sheesh.

i've started browsing through newsgroups again, after a year or two-long hiatus. the last time i was actively involved in groups, i got so pissed by the low signal-to- noise ratio that i gave up and started hitting sites like slashdot to get my community fix. i don't know what's happened in the meantime, but the newgroups i'm keeping tabs on now seem to be either monitored or just cleaner in general. i'm happy about it.

based on a posting in comp.lang.objective-c, i downloaded some Rhapsody (aka Mac OS X) tutorials from Apple's Web site. of course, since nobody felt like burning me an illicit copy of DP 4 at MacHack, i have nothing on which to run these tutorials. can't wait until september...

today i'm going to try fighting with XFree86 to get it to run on my stock HP Pavilion. i've freshly installed RedHat 6.1 a number of times, but now it's time to really figure out what the problem is instead of solving software problems the Micro$oft way.
