Notes: Senior Consultant with Covalent Technologies, Apache Core Developer, Director of the Apache Software Foundation, ExecVP and Sec. of the Apache Software Foundation, made contributions and ports for Perl, sendmail, BIND/named, xntpd, cgiwrap, PHP and quite a few other projects, A/UX FAQ Editor (Wow! that dates me), author/speaker and ex-Slashdot editor, Web Techniques At Your Server columnist.
On a personal note, married for over 15 years to most likely the most understanding and beautiful woman possible, my wife Eileen. Have 3 sons (Jonathan, Timothy and Andrew), who we spoil a bit too much. Yes, have a dog and cat too. Call me Mister Settled. Finishing up my Doctoral thesis, so should have my PhD early next year. Trimmed my beard down to the obligatory goatee.
Looks like my dissertation went well... :) Should know for certain soon.
Now that New Architect is out, I find that I actually * miss* writing articles. I've had a few people contact me about doing some more writing, so maybe I'll look into it.
I still hate libtool. I hate autoconf just a little bit less than I used to. But just a little bit.
On the 11th, I turned the big one. Four Oh. Not as tough as I would have thought it was going to be.
I'll be heading out to Santa Clara for a few days on Jan 21... maybe this time I'll take time out to actually do some siteseeing. And at the end of the month, up to NY for the LinuxWorld Expo. That should be pretty fun... One bad thing about living on the East Coast is that you don't have that many opportunities to hook up with the people you know via the 'net. Most of 'em seem to be on the West Coast (or overseas :) ).
Got another Web Techniques article in the hopper. Great magazine...
Running the 2.4 kernel on my G4 Yellowdog Linux machine. Works like a dream. Not as many things available for PPC format, but so what. That's what source and compilers are for. *grin*
Just got my new Apple Dual G4 computer. Sweet. Got OS 9, OS X and Linux all booting up on it. YellowDog does a pretty decent Linux implementation for the Mac. Still like FreeBSD better :). The Mac just cooks. Compiles are super fast.
Working on getting jagubox2 (or maybe son-of-jagubox) up and running. Still a valuable resource... the A/UX community still exists. I still think that if Apple had focused on developing A/UX, we'd have had a OS X-like environment for the Mac years ago. Durn shame.
