Well, what's new?

Not much.

8 weeks to go before I graduate. I'm counting the days.

Just did some input filtering changes to httpd-2.0 that'll affect third-parties. Oh, well. That change needed to happen.

Redid flood's website: http://httpd.apache.org/test/flood/ Check it out. I'll probably be rolling a tarball in the next few weeks.

Ahh, another diary entry. What to say?

Took the GRE Comp. Sci. Subject Test yesterday. Had the
GRE General Test two weeks ago. Midterms are mostly over
(one on Tuesday). So, life slowly returns to its calm and
serene pace. Or not.

Been spending time trying to redesign the
httpd.apache.org site. It's a mess to say the least.
Anakia is nice - Jon and company did a good job.

We're shooting for a httpd 2.0 beta real soon now. Yeah.
Greg's right in that we should have released the damn thing
a while ago. Oh, well.

Hmm. Ryan tagged 2.0.26 today. Got a minor issue with APR and how it handles waiting processes. Jeff brought it up this weekend. I don't really have a good idea how it should go just yet. The SVN people may have a stronger preference than the HTTPD people. We'll see what pans out. Ryan doesn't like Jeff's suggestion. Hmm.

mod_ssl and mod_proxy are once again happy after my input filtering changes. All looks well for the moment.

Still studying for the GREs... Taking the general test at the end of the month. Then, the CS subject test in the middle of November. Grad school, here I go.

The input filtering rewrite landed in the repository over
the weekend. Yea. Now, let's get people to test it out.
It passed all of the tests that I could throw at it. Hmm.

Did some cleanups with autconf-2.5+ help text. Looks better
now.

Pier and David Reid were in town, so Roy, Aaron, and I hung
out with them last night. Went to the beach and dinner.
Yeah, that was cool. David and Pier on Pier's motorcycle
from San Diego up to Irvine. Oh, that must have been loads
of fun.

I need a life...

Well, another day gone.

Greg found the problem with autoconf 2.5/libtool 1.4 - APR was calling AC_PROG_CC twice. I was looking at that function and then had to go study for the GREs (subject test coming up). When I came back, Greg's email was in my inbox. Oh, well, you can't win them all. (Which of course is the beauty of open source.)

There were only four people in the house (as I mentioned yesterday) - but now, a few others came back. Woo-hoo. Now it isn't as deserted as it was before. Actually possible to have human interaction now. Yipee.

Time for bed. Riiight. I want to take a look at the bucket functions in httpd. I think they're unnecessarily screwy. See if I can figure out some decent optimizations. Already have a rewrite sitting in my tree. Let's see if it doesn't blow things up dramatically.

Bored. Very bored.

Another quarter begins. Life here in the house is kind of
slow. Most people went home - there are only four of us
left. Hmph.

Autoconf 2.5+ and Libtool 1.4 doesn't like to do shared
libraries in combination. *sigh* That took long enough to
identify. Now the question is what is the real problem and
what is the fix?

Getting gcc-3.0.1 to build on Solaris is getting to be a
chore (distraction, but a chore nevertheless). I'm now at
the state where I need to install binutils first. It
shouldn't be *this* painful.

Upgraded bind at UCF to the latest - saw some stability
problems - hoping that this will fix them.

Did I mention I am bored? I'm going through all of my
bookmarks and staring at them. Sleep is for the meek.

Naps are good.

Don't forget that metal coat hangers can work wonders on
opening any sort of doors in a house.
