Notes:

I'm a system administrator in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I manage all of the server hardware and OS software, which makes life interesting at best...

At any rate, some of the things I have experience with:

  • LDAP: Implemented centralized authentication for the college using OpenLDAP, nss_ldap/pam_ldap (Linux), apache with auth_ldap, and wrote a management interface for LDAP and automation scripts for registered students of the college which integrates OpenLDAP, Lotus Domino, and Novell Netware (accounts are created at the same time and passwords are synchronized across the seperate systems).
  • Bind: (currently working with bind 9). Have implemented and maintained DNS for many organizations, and my own domains.
  • Apache: I have been running web servers since 1993, including NCSA, Cern, IIS, Netscape/iPlanet, and mostly Apache including stronghold and apache ssl before mod_ssl was available as ubiquitously as it is now.
  • Sendmail: I have wrote configs and managed sendmail servers since 1994 including pop/imap servers, hashed spools, virtual mail hosts, etc, etc. Currently I am doing LDAP mail routing and delivery using sendmail, procmail, and uw imap/pop with a hashed spool hack to handled lots of users.
  • Linux/UNIX/BSD: Managed Linux servers since 1993 where my first job at an ISP in BC, CA. I have been running Linux exclusively since sometime in that year. I have managed Linux/Tru64 UNIX/SunOS/*BSD systems over that time including all local host services (cron/syslog/yada/yada) and internet services such as inetd, xinetd, sshd, (fill in your favorite service here).
  • NT/MS Products: I have managed NT servers and some W2k servers, although most of my experience has been with UNIXish OSs.
  • Oracle: on Linux, been there done that.
  • LVS and piranha to provide load balancing for web application servers and failover due to failure.
  • Linux cluster using OGFS and apache as well as LVS/piranha for the load balancing and failover of the cluster.
  • EMC CX600 storage management and management of SAN fabrics including design and implementation on an ongoing basis

Projects: I currently maintain the LDAP component of phprojekt, an open source php based project management system. I have also contributed in minuscule ways to the Linux kernel project, the Linux HA project, the Apache project, and some RPMS which were later included in various Red Hat releases. I have also written libcgi and cgiupl libraries which are based on NCSA code and have hooks to do cgi parsing and uploading. This was pre-php, which I would strongly recommend now.

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
