I got an account on kuro5hin.org... another community news site. Doesn't look too interesting just yet... apart from H.R. 2987. (Okay, so I'm german... but when even the US treats freedom of speech this way, Germany will do even worse :-(
email email email... I'm swamped. But it gets better on weekends ;-) And the bulk of this I collected while I was at my grandma's and couldn't get at my mail.
There was a nice comparison of Athlon boards in the current c't. They mention that the ASUS K7V has sound on-board... but it's not a real sound-card in that the CPU has to do all the processing (a WinSoundCard if you will).
Of course there are drivers for Windoze... they mention drivers for Linux, but I fear they're binary-only. *sigh* If that is the case I'd have to go with a K7M... luckily they also say that the features the VIA Northbridge provides aren't really that necessary.
I just checked on www.asus.com, and it looks as if there are binary drivers for K7V sound. Damn. So K7M it will be (hopefully soon :-/) Is cheaper anyway ;-)
Oh, and mkdist has had 4 downloads already! ;-) Well, I hope someone sends me some feedback... gotta mention that in the package.
