I went to OSDI last week. It was really great to see so many smart people gathered same place. I saw lots of people whom I only knew thru Internet and even some that I only wanted to meet. (AST for instance). Nice to see that OS research is slowly coming back.

I made short work in-progress presentations of our Mach tuning work. I though that some people got quite interested. Main question is do Apple and FSF care about their products performance enough to overcome Not Invented Here syndrome?

Lost of things happened lately. We are almost ready for alpha release of tuned microkernel. I did some work on MkLinux and now there is a working server based on Linux kernel 2.0. I even posted kind of press release to OSNews.
As soon as benchmarks are ready alpha is going live.

There has been a story about utility computing. Clearly it has been expected for a long time. Now it has happened (or hapenning).
Next is going to be (re)emerging of Multiserver/Microkernel designed Operating Systems (such as Yamit)

I should find time and really learn Japanese. There are so many interesting people in Japan, including geeks and such. All the European and Russian geeks hang out in English places, but Japanese don't even always translate their sites.
