Happenings and thoughts

Quick summary: a lot of this post has to do with the upcoming FUDCon F11, the wiki page renaming hackfest which happens tomorrow (today, in UTC), and some other randomish things relating to anything I think about.

FUDCon F11: Social networking

This might be a bit premature, but a few things I think people should do if they’re heading to FUDCon next week:

  • Tag related posts on Identi.ca (and Twitter, meh) with “#fudconf11″
  • Find yourself on whoisi.com and add “@fudconf11″ as an alias
  • Tag related blog entries with “fudconf11″

If you’re uploading photos to Flickr, please add them to this group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/fudconf11/.

FUDCon F11: Picture book

If you’re at FUDCon, be prepared to have someone take a few pictures of you and ask you for your “Fedora story” — the story relating you and the Fedora Project. This is all for the upcoming series of picture books that Marketing is working on.

If you’ve got a nice camera (DSLRs, mostly), bring it with you and see me for what you can do to help. We’ll be meeting shortly after the initial events to go over the process of getting pictures. Also, stick your name on the wiki page for the picture book project as a photographer.

Docs Project: Wiki renaming hackfest

If you would like to help with renaming pages on the wiki, apply for the gitwikirename group in FAS and send me an email. We’ll be working tomorrow starting at about whenever I wake up 16:00 UTC or so until we all get tired.

fedora-business-cards

If you haven’t heard through the grapevine yet, fedora-business-cards is pretty much ready to go. A few weeks ago I got my (second round of) business cards from OvernightPrints.com and they turned out wonderfully. To use f-b-c, on Fedora 9 or later, run

yum install fedora-business-cards

as root. Run

fedora-business-cards --help

for a summary of the options.

You may end up having characters in your name with accents or other missing glyphs from the MgOpen Moderna font. If this is the case, you may change the font face for your information to DejaVu. It’s a bit difficult to get this to work with --cmyk-pdf, but I’ll be producing alternative templates and bundling them with a new release soon.

Dear Lazyweb…

What’s the best way to get from Logan Airport to the hotel for FUDCon using MBTA transit? FWIW, I’ll be arriving at Logan at about 8:15 pm.

Also, how would I integrate fedora-business-cards into translate.fedoraproject.org?

Wordpress 2.7

I upgraded to WordPress 2.7 a couple of days ago. Some features that struck me as awesome: the QuickPress dashboard widget, and the fact that automatically upgrading plugins actually works for me now.

The new UI hasn’t really grown on me yet, but I’m sure it will in a while.

New website design

So I made myself a new website design. It’s live on ianweller.org.

It’s based off of the 960 Grid System. I’m going to start distributing the WordPress theme after I clean up the code (a lot).

Comments appreciated.
