Notes:

I am currently at Michigan State University and will receive my Master of Science in Computer Science in May 2004.

I hack on the Cygwin/X project. Around April/March 2001 I accomplished my goal of rewriting the X Server so that it would run on Windows 95/98/Me in addition to the previously supported Windows NT/2000. I wrote a Contributor's Guide to make it easier for people to contribute to our project.

Yesterday I released a buildable development framework for Cygwin/X that will allow us to finally make a Win9X compatible X Server; it has been thirteen weeks since I discovered the Cygwin/X project.

Any interested Windows GDI, DirectDraw, or X programmers can read the easy to follow installation instructions in the Cygwin/X User's Guide . The development framework announcement contains very much information that potential contributers will find useful.

Hmm... done talking about software... nothing else to talk about :)

7 Sep 2000: I have never contributed to a free software project before

8 Sep 2000: Bitched about how Cygwin/X was too hard to install.

10 Sep 2000: Posted Cygwin/X Installation How-To draft (Word document, ick).

11 Sep 2000: Submitted patch for Cygwin Setup bug that showed up when saving to some versions of Samba shares. (Some versions return ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND when a directory doesn't exist; Windows returns ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND)

12 Sep 2000: Spent day trying to get DocBook/SGML installed.

13 Sep 2000: Translated Cygwin/X Installation How-To draft into DocBook/SGML.

Heh, it seems that contribution to the community is one of those things that just happens to you without being planned, like a wife and kids. :)
