I just released a barely working version a my perl http-server.
I thought I get it out early before I get any patches for any old version.

No point in rewriteen Apache in perl, Apache/mod_perl works like a clockwork IMHO. Better to make a small fast testbed for more specialised proposes.

It is based on libwww-perl by Gisle Aas and Net::Daemon/HTML::EP by Jochen Wiedmann. Designed to serve paged with embedded perl.

Plans are there for WebDAV support and I am pondering what can be done with PostgreSQL ORDBMS and XML-storage. Hmmm ....

Anyway get it from kirra.net if ou want to have a look.

My friend Arvid, 7 months, does not have a website,
he got a wap-site at http://wap.bildbasen.se/arvid.wml.
A bonus of having a techie father, my collegue Sven.
First wap-baby??

Started rewriting of http-server in perl, it is always easier to second time around.

I am taking a new approach to this, heck the world do not need another general propose http-server. Instead it is going to be specialized to serv perl-parsed HTML, more specifically HTML::EP pages.

These are main features in my plan:

  • native builtin HTML::EP support
  • configuration file in XML, using XML::Simple-module
  • WebDAV support

Visited my friend Arvid, 7 mounts old. He tried to eat my MacWorld-watch. :-)

I installed Gregs mod_dav-module on one of our servers, it work excellent with cadaver.
Not the case this M$ FP2k I'm afraid. I had read the Office2k should support DAV, turns out Word2k support it FP does NOT. Guess we should edit our website with Word from now on. Formatting hard drive!

In the process I called M$ costumer support, it was 5 years since last time, it will be at least 5 years til next time! It could not talk to a technican to decode error code 2343 since the woman at the switchboard did not successfully decoded my product-key which I read several time (24 figures) to her over the phone. She demand that I faxed(!) it to them (email anyone) together with the purchase receipt for investigation. After a successful investigation I perhaps could get the error code decoded.

I hang up, and went surging on the internet instead, always the right action in the first place. Turns out that the path to Lotus Notes was incorrect in some registry entries. What installing FP has to do with Notes is not clear to me, maybe to install something to make the Notes client even more unstable.
Thank you , Bill.

Still formatting hard drive!

I should write up some advise for young hackers so they could avoid some pain.

I have recently had more problems with my neck, shoulders and back than usually.
I seems the age is taking it's toll (I am 37 years old).

Y2k work is soon over. Patched up the last
two solaris servers today. Now it remains
only to keep fingers crossed.

Yesterday (Nov 10) I uploaded a new version of the kirra server.

This probably gonna be the last for a while, have to direct my interest elsewhere a few moments.

If you're interested in perl and web-innovations check it out. Send patches, new ideas and modules to me.

New Advogato Features

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
