Wow... things always have a way of suprising you... I thought I was going back to school and work as a Windows Consultant... turns out my old consultancy company wants a big time GNU/Linux Strategy and made me the lead engineer... so in a few hours I built a firewall/VPN solution, and there is alot of excitement about it, and we have people who are already waiting for it, and a good idea of who is going to buy them... and things are looking totally promising, in both a computing and monetary stand point.... I Absolutely Love Getting Paid to Play With GNU/LINUX.
I had a real interesting debate with Ghod today... the company he works for gives the Source Code of thier products to the customers who buy thier software.. they can modify it, but then all support is lost, and they can't distribute it... Now he tells me he works for an Open Source Company, and they Open Source all of their work... I disagree, I don't think that is Open Source, but a misuesed Buzzword on thier part... The Defination from The Open Source Initiative starts with "Open source doesn't just mean access to the source code. The distribution terms of open-source software must comply with the following criteria: " then lists a long bit of critera to be considered Open Source... Open Source doesn't just mean access to the source code... that's it... and The Open Source Initiative to me is the definative authority on what is and isn't Open Source.
Open Source this Open Source that... what I favor anyway is Freedom... GPL it or go Home...
