The company I worked for this summer, BASCOM, asked me to work remotely from school... I already have a really good job, and I'm real happy with my new job. But I might actually be able to do both of them and still go to school... I'm gonna look into that... I dunno why I like to work so much.

ErikLevy has some strange views about software for being an Advogato user.. HINT HINT... OPEN SOURCE Companies are not going out of business anytime soon... are there any signs that they are like the Dot-Coms? No, they all have revenue models, and it may take a few years to develop, but hey it's working for Amazon.. RedHat, Caldera, VA Linux, they are all in good shape... So to say that Free Software is going to put business under is an ignorant statement... I can't honestly give one good reason for proprietary software. On top of that, Open Source companies are not in the software business, but the service business.

Man my head is so clouded today, it's hard for me to work on the technical stuff, and I dont' know why my head is so clouded...

I hope to write sometime soon a diary entry about some of my political beliefs

There is nothing wrong with flame on an advocacy site.. it is expected, and believe it or not, sometimes resolves conflict

And Finally today's diary entry

I just wanted to take some time out of my day and thank the corporate forces of the Open Source movement. Thanks you Helix Code, you guys are doing a great job and I am excited to see what our lovely desktop will look like 1 year from now. Keep an ear on criticizm, but know you guys are headed in the right direction, doing the right thing, keep the marketing for the Beer Industry... while on the desktop issue, Eazel, Nautalus is looking great. Wish someone would do for KDE what Helix is doing for GNOME... I'm a gnu guy, but with KDE now GPL'd I'd like to see the competition heat up.

Thanks to RED HAT for showing the world what Linux is, and positioning themself to be one of the dominant companies of this century An unusual thanks goes to SUN Microsystems a new ally to the Free Software World.. good job getting involved with GNOME, GPL'ing Star Office and buying Cobalt... now Open Up some more of that Code. VA Linux... I dunno what to say... your perhaps the corporation that contributes most to us developers. SourceForge is truely a staple and important part of our culture now.

Oreilly I dedicate a paragraph of my diary to you guys... enough said.. you are the Open Source movement. Been supportive from Day 1, and are personally responsible for making me the tech I am... I have countless books, and have spent countless hours reading them all.

There are no doubt companies dear to my heart that I missed, I'm sorry your not in my diary, honorable mention goes to DRJ Computing, for paying me to develop linux solutions, and I'm hoping in my down time they will allow me to join some Open Source projects on company time... I mean we are a 5 man company, not exactly like Red Hat, but we all know here, how important Open Source projects are... I wanna joing the PoPTop team, I'd also like to help find a replacement for Exchange Server...

Been sick all weekend, so I decided to work from Home today... that is a nice luxury to have... Have some serious coding to finish up, and have to get Squid up and running... if I accomplish my coding and configuring SQUID, this box I'm building is almost done, and then the whole world can have an easy VPN solution....

Speaking of VPN, and Telecomutting... I"m off to buy my office (my bedroom) some donuts...

Early in the morning and I"m really tired, I havn't had solid sleep in a week or so, and I came down with this cold... work up early to get some work done, and feel way to lazy... pushing right along and going to classes today...

My housemate (MSI Major) is taking his first C++ class, and is using Unix for the first time, so I set up a developement server in the house that he can use to code on. So my house now officially has a machine that is only used to code on.. pretty cool.

Between today and tommorrow I plan to learn everything there is to know about Squid, as Web Caching is something some of my clients are interested in.

Waking up very early to go to work today, after drinking last night, man glad I'm still young... after that the city throws a festival called Lark Fest which is very awsome... drinking on the streets... should be a good day, and going to see the NY Jets Sunday, at Giants Stadium

I have real difficutly in finding cases FOR closed source software... maybe financial institution, but outside of that... Open Source it...

Maybe I'll write an Advogato article asking when people should Close Source thier code.

roquemtl You have a valid point... is it ok for me to say 'print "Kill the President";' ... hmmm maybe we should get shirts made up that have Perl Code, stating intentions to stage a revolution.

Wow... things always have a way of suprising you... I thought I was going back to school and work as a Windows Consultant... turns out my old consultancy company wants a big time GNU/Linux Strategy and made me the lead engineer... so in a few hours I built a firewall/VPN solution, and there is alot of excitement about it, and we have people who are already waiting for it, and a good idea of who is going to buy them... and things are looking totally promising, in both a computing and monetary stand point.... I Absolutely Love Getting Paid to Play With GNU/LINUX.

I had a real interesting debate with Ghod today... the company he works for gives the Source Code of thier products to the customers who buy thier software.. they can modify it, but then all support is lost, and they can't distribute it... Now he tells me he works for an Open Source Company, and they Open Source all of their work... I disagree, I don't think that is Open Source, but a misuesed Buzzword on thier part... The Defination from The Open Source Initiative starts with "Open source doesn't just mean access to the source code. The distribution terms of open-source software must comply with the following criteria: " then lists a long bit of critera to be considered Open Source... Open Source doesn't just mean access to the source code... that's it... and The Open Source Initiative to me is the definative authority on what is and isn't Open Source.

Open Source this Open Source that... what I favor anyway is Freedom... GPL it or go Home...

Excited about going to work today, I'm a linux coder on a mission.. hope to finish up Win9x to Linux VPN, building a nice little, firewall/VPN/Gateway box, VPN is the last key feature, then I just have to clean the systems up and audit them.

Need to meet with Ghod about SpokenSource, hope we meet up to.

Still don't like school, but only got 2 semesters to go

Miss my girlfriend, but back to coding.

AHH Back to WORK :-).. it's pretty freakin sick but I really enjoy working... back at my old Consulting Company who wants me to transform them into a Linux Networking/Security/Gateway company.. at least on the technical end... they got the marketing all figured out, it's just my job to build the box, the way I like, which means every piece of software on these boxes will be GPL'd

Visited my girlfriend at Cortland last weekend.... we needed a rest from school so we took a vacation in Ithaca, New York. We spontanously decided to get Tatoo's, I really like mine, it's a tribal half moon and I'm very happy with it... Good Decision

Well I am starting to work for my old consulting company on Tuesday.. which is good, cause I have Tues off from school, and the boredom is killing me

Good news too.... the reason why I was not happy going back to DRJ (the consultanting company in Albany) is cause I work so often with WINDOWS.. well I was told

"Hey the first thing I"m gonna have you working on is some linux stuff. I was talking to a guy who wants to sell a whole bunch of your Linux boxes"..... Alright, LINUX STUFF !!!!

One reason I enjoy working in the Windows world however, is to learn how there world works, and see what programs users are stuck on.. right now it's Outlook and Exchange server that keeps WinNT in business...

First day of classes... school just gets easy to handle each year... welp last year.

Putting together editorial content for SpokenSource, excited that the author of a Brave GNU World wanted to write something in it.

Coding came to a halt sometime last week, need to get motivated to code again.

Did a bit of computing on my local network (my house)... got 2 CSI majors, and an MSI major in this house so I built a Red Hat machine that we can all use as a developement machine... made everyone accounts and started teaching the MSI kid some GNU/Linux
