I know, I know, I should have done more entries on my diary :(

For learning Java, you should read Sun Java Tutorial. It is really exaustive and you can also download it (in case your net connection is not up..). On the book side, I learned Java using "Exploring Java" (O'Reilly) but it seems very old now.. The same author has written "Learning Java" (O'Reilly), it is probably good too.

We don't hate you.. Your emails can be perceived as provocative and irritative but there is a very good reason : you are asking the GOOD questions, the one we tend to put under the carpet because we don't want to start a flamewar.. Please, continue to push us (GNOME community) on the right tracks..

On the a11y stuff, I've spent some time last week on packaging it for Mandrake and it is now finished and working. I have to agree with you, it is not perfect yet (it get better when you use gnopernicus and not the other programs separately), but I'm sure this is because the entire framework wasn't released/packaged/used on a regular basis by non-developers..

Work

Since my last entry, we got Mandrake Linux 9.1 out of the doors, in case nobody noticed :) Feedback was really good and it felt nice, specialy for Mandrake Galaxy theme. Of course, somebody found a crasher in the theme one week after CD went gold but it got fixed through official updates.

With distro rush away, I've found some time to work on a bot to package/build new versions of GNOME modules when they are available on FTP.. It works quite nicely when packages are not too much patched and it is really helpful.

Work has started to improve Galaxy theme for 9.2 but hopefully, it won't be a lot of work on the GTK side (too bad for our KDE hacker, he is the one with a lot of work :))

Work :

I've been able to fix all known bugs in menudrake (except a missing file selector for icon but I won't have time to do it for MandrakeLinux 9.1 :(

Really a good day..

Wow, my first diary entry :)

Work :

There are days where nothing works as you planned.. Today was one of these days..

Planned to fix various bugs on menudrake.

Result : fix with NFS problem with latest cooker kernel, preventing me to access my email.

Then I had to fix several glitches in new Mandrake Galaxy theme. Discovered I could remove hack from Crux engine in GTK 1.2 version of the theme for scrollbar since I included 6 months ago a patch from rawhide, which allow scrollbars to be drawn like GTK 2. Added prelight and pressed state to buttons in metacity theme and discovered buttons images were not correct. I spent 1/2 hour with our graphist to fix that..

Amount of time spent on menudrake : less than 1 minute :(

I started to use jhbuild on my test system to always have a GNOME 2 debug build available.. Quite nice but I still need to fix some problems on my system.

Personal:
Too bad, there are no taichi lessons tonight because of winter holidays :(
