This is probably a bad idea.

For everyone's enjoyment, I have renamed bugzilla.restek.wwu.edu to FARVAzilla.restek.wwu.edu

Also, I have spent much of the afternoon frantically reloading the WWU machine status page. Something odd is wrong with the academic network, but it's not very obvious what the problem is. We know that residential IP's can't really talk to academic IP's, but it seems that our office (academic network) can still talk to our servers (residential network).

Added 25 new bugs to bugzilla today. Most of them came from the Kulshan Tast List in wiki. We're up to 70 bugs already.

Also, Mattyd needs an account so we can assign final VSF bugs to him and Ben.

Alvis, our development, testing, and CVS server went down today. Figured out that it was a bad power supply. Really weird, I've never seen that happen before. I guess this really shows that we need to update some of the servers, simply for relability.

So sign up for an account today, and start assigning bugs to people!

sitzmar called this morning to inform me that 'ldap is hosed'.

After I was unable to login to kulshan or odin (both ldap authenticating servers) I realized that the ldap server was probably screwy.

I log into vidar and immediately type w out of habit. 4 hours uptime... So I assumed there was a power outage earlier in the morning. Everything seemed fine with the slapd process, so I tried poking around some more. Eventually I noticed that the slapcat command, which is used to dump the raw ldif from the ldap server database store, was seg-faulting half way through the dump. Corrupt data.

I realized that all of our backups wouldn't have the new staff that were just added last night. So I had to create those accounts all over again.

Also, very important:

I got the php script that deny's users from the proxy if students are marked virus. Yeah for blocking users access!

  • Fixed ipadmin so it doesn't crap out on lab machine listings. This involved branching a few shared files because I'm half done rewriting them. I think pat was the one who needed the lab machine listings.
  • Created 7 new staff accounts today for our incoming new staff.
  • As a result of the above, I touched up some of the wiki entries around new account setup and email account usage.

I was amused today by the banner ad on slashdot, coupled with the top article on the site.
